Cab size change and bed size change

Reg cab is for old grumpy guys and work/plow trucks.

I have been called grumpy on more than one occasion & I use my truck to haul top soil, bldg materials, etc. and also do some towing - so you may have something there!

No. GM sets parameters about how to determine which trucks can qualify. Not all dealers have trucks that qualify, and many dealers have sold the ONE that they had. It isn't the oldest 10 percent of whatever is on each dealer's lot.

I was fortunate enough to get one yesterday, and it has a build date of May 2015, so certainly not "old"... Bronze AT with most of the goodies!

Ask you sales rep, too.

My truck came from a different NE Ohio dealer. I wanted 5.3L with tow package and brake control in silver, so he went to another dealer and got it. If you have a "friend" at dealer A, but truck you want is at dealer B, he should be able to do a dealer exchange. Same deals were able to be made (although this varies with promo I suppose).

Quirk GMC here in Manchester, NH

Sadly, they also have a Traverse that I want but refuse to do dealer trades. I have no interest in trekking up there and creating a whole new relationship with another dealer, ticking off MY dealer, and then being "out in the cold" if I have any -real- issues in the future.

Isn't the sale the "oldest trucks in stock?". So every dealer has some?

This is from the gmc.com homepage:

6. On oldest 10% of inventory as of 8/17/15 while stock lasts. Not compatible with special finance, lease and some other offers. Take delivery by 9/8/15. See participating dealer for details.

There are still parameters that GM will apply to determine what the 10% consists of. For example, they might say "All SLT Crew Cab with Max Tow Package" is one qualifying group. It isn't just a flat "oldest ones out there, wherever they may be"

They may also apply regional components (oldest 10% in New England), colors, specific options, etc. And, it isn't the oldest 10% on each lot. There's a dealer in Eastern MA that has a truck -still in transit- that qualifies for the discount!

I have owned both the crew cab with the 5ft bed and the extend cab with the 6ft bed. Personally I do not used my bed every day but when I do have the extra room makes all the difference. Currently I do not need a crew cab as it is just myself, my girlfriend and two medium sized dogs. We fit very comfortable in the double cab. But if I were to purchase a crew cab it would be with the standard sized bed.

More input :) The 2014 change to the "regular" doors made a BIG difference, too.

If I had bought a used 2013 or older, Crew Cab was a MUST. I had a 2001, and the "suicide" doors sucked.

Actually, I wouldn't even give them that much credit. I was looking at the GM trucks at that point (2001) and opted for a Ram Sport Quad Cab because the doors and door HANDLES on the GMs were horrendous.

This is my first truck and I got the crew cab with the standard bed. Not only does it look more proportional and better than the short box. It also comes in handy. If you have the space in the garage, get the crew cab with the standard bed. Trust me, you won't regret it.

I've had a 98 2500 ext cab 6.5 ft bed, 99 1/2 2500 ext cab 6.5 ft bed, 2008 crew 5.5 ft bed. When I bought the 2008 truck it was my first 1500 and first crew, first 5 1/2 ft bed. I loved the crew cab, hated about everything else, especially the bed size. On long cross country hunting trips, the bed was stacked nearly to the ceiling of the topper. The very first month I had that truck, I swore I'd never buy a 1500 again, mainly because of the short bed. When the K2 came out with the 6 1/2 ft bed, I reconsidered another 1500. Yeah, 99% of the time I drive around with nearly nothing in the back, but when I do use it for hunting trips, I'm very happy I bought the longer bed.

And yes, that extra 10" in overall length is a bit of pain around the big city (L.A.) when parking. The backup camera and warning system really help with that.
