so far I like them.  Haven't had any snow to really see how they perform there, but on the road they are fairly quiet & smooth.  They are a little stiffer than the stock Goodyear Eagle LS-2s.  Those were really a grand touring car tire & not made for dirt or snow.

they are definitely a front runner for me. i had ls2s on my 2007 sierra when i first got that back in the day and they are a terrible tire for snow/ice and compacted snow. i live in north dakota so a good winter tire is a must.

In that case, yes the BFGs should be a great choice as they have a very good reputation for snowy conditions.  The other option, which I was also considering, would be the Goodyear Duratrac.  They don't offer that tire in a 285/55r20 size which is one reason I went the with BFG.

i like the duratracs as well. they are a second choice for me and possibly the cooper stt pro. there is a tire that seems to be a knock off of the duratracs which are the kanati trail hog but unsure if they are offered in that size i guess. can’t fond much on them from people that have run them otherwise i’d maybe give them a try myself.

May have the same or similar tread pattern, but the rubber compound has a lot to do with the mountain/snowflake rating.  Don't know if the Kanati tires have that or not.

Don't know how important that is in N Dakota, but going over the Sierra passes often have chain controls and CalTrans stops get very picky about what tires can continue on the hwys without chains. They'll close the roads before requiring 4wd's with snowtires to chain up.

don’t believe they have that rating. it’s one of those things where “you get what you pay for” i imagine. bought cheaper knock offs in my younger days but have learned my lesson.

really no regulations here in nodak other than if you run studded tires; which i have never encountered anyone that does, to have them off by a certain date. here it’s kind of use your own judgment and if you’re stupid enough to go out in bad conditions you get what you deserve and traffic fines will be handed out if it gets to the point where interstate has been shut down.

my brother runs the ko2s on his vehicles and has had nothing but good things to say about them. his see a lot of gravel and they wear quite well for him and perform well in the winter.

Wish it were like that around here.  There are lots of idiot drivers from CA that have not clue how to drive in the snow.  CalTrans and Cali's CHP have to monitor the idiots and have ridiculous rules when driving over the mountains.  Most of the time requiring chains before snow even starts sticking to the streets.   Luckily I'm in NV and don't see them everyday.  Just when I want to go skiing or going over the hills to visit family in the Sacramento area.

Is that a 285/70/17 or the 285/75/17 I’ve been trying to figure out if I can run the 285/75/17 with a 2.5 rc kit on my factory wheels

They’re 33x12.50r17. Pretty much the same height as the 285/70 but wider. I swapped the 33s for 315/70r17 and only rub the wheel liner

Ok thanks man the 315s look to be about an inch taller and wider than what I’m going with, so you believe they will work with the 285/75 or 33.86x11.25

Got into a new 2017 1500 All-Terrain earlier last year and just getting around to a lift. There are two shops close by that claim it would be near impossible to run a Zone 6.5 or anything similar with my stock 20x9s and 34/35 inch treads. Is this just a lazy approach by the shop

I don't remember having such an issue with my 2014 that had 18" stockers, besides running spacers. Am I just barking up the wrong tree as far as the shops or am I missing something?

I think they are full of it I think the stock 20's would work fine.

Here is mine 2014 Silverado Motofab 2.5" front 2" rear on stock LTZ wheels with 305/55/20 (33x12.50) Falken wildpeak at3w d52fbcde455efd6cf59d5448b2b21347.jpg45380a2e3b56c7aae36db256decc5e9e.jpg

Stock backspacing should be roughly 6" (6.06" for the sticklers). Zone states that 5.75" of backspace as the limit for running 35x12.50 on a 20" rim. So looks like a 1" spacer all around should do the trick?

I have a zone 4.5 with 33’s. No rubbing whatsoever. I just won a 6” BDS from Custom Offsets and they said I can run 35’s with this setup with no rubbing. Good luck.  You’ll have a whole new truck once it’s lifted

    • My 2015 1500 LTZ Silverado suddenly won't go into 4 x 4 low. It will go into 4 x 4 high.
    • Yep, just a quick reference point.    My main point being I’d do a thousand other things before I’d pay 10k for a transmission.    Speaking in ignorance cause I don’t look at these trucks, what is it worth? 20k?
    • I think users are going to want to pick their monitored parameters, which parameters they want to see first.    It should probably start with baseline at a minimum and adjust to learned, but be able to overlay baseline for comparison.   A simple severity level would be able to determine what type of alerting is appropriate or user selectable.    Why not use the OBD port though?   I think a phone connection would be a good idea, push notifications type deal.   Number 1 issue is having data is useless if you don’t know what the data should be under normal conditions.
    • I thought I would use your thread and add to it as I just did my first longer drive with my truck in the last couple of days. I drove from the Grande Prairie area of Alberta down to Edmonton and most of where I drove in the city was the ring road so fairly free flowing but a bit of stop and go as well in the city. Stayed the night and returned home and not too many stops along the way each way but every restart and certainly every cold start sets it back for fuel mileage. Why I say that is I see some people will cherry pick a fuel mileage leg after the vehicle had been warmed up driveline wise before hand and its a forgiving ( easy rolling drive leg for example ) and call that their fuel mileage which can give a false perception of reality. I was not heavily loaded at all but never the less the flip bak cover, rubber bed mat, various tools etc and extra jerry cans of fuel all way up to a few hundred pounds of dead weight so its not an empty truck. The cold inflation tire pressures are set more near the freezing point so once they are warmed up driving I was showing 45 front and over 40 rear and realize high inflation pressures would help a little in fuel mileage but certainly not the ride on our crap sections of highway. The weather was good so was not raining as that can really drag mileage down, in fact I had a bit of a tail wind on average driving home. Most people on here would never have driven on that freeway to visualize it but its got a fair bit of rolling type of landscape with numerous river valleys. For the most part I had it on cruise set to 62 although kicking it off if I caught it in time before it started down shifting and self braking going down the grades. Most of the more substantial grades its shifting into 7th I believe as 8th just doesn't have it. Total distance round trip was 643 miles and my overall average and I did refuel three times in all, figured out to 17.65 miles per US gallon. My best fuel mileage section refuel within all of this figured out to 18.46 and these are all hand calculated figures. I find if anything that the trucks computer can be over optimistic, sometimes its pretty close but other times its stretching it. On paper persay in theory the truck would have just about made it on fumes for that whole drive without refueling once.    Which made me think of the topic thread of the wonder if these trucks could do 20 mpg and that is a good question, certainly would have to be on an easy going flat highway, no head wind, the right temperature, not packing around a bunch of dead weight and puttering along even slower than I was I would suspect and going steady and not stopping to smell the flowers or take a piss !. It probably is possible but not without effort to attain that with the wind resistance and weight of these trucks. Of course on my drive most people are passing me if they have the power as per loaded highway tractors, never mind a lot of speedy vehicles but the speed limit is 68 and most are at or well over that.
    • Monday looks like a good day for the dealer to test an ac issue. Hopefully it all turns out good.
