How many trucks is GM building a year? 500K? Half a year is 250k. If there's $10 difference between processors, that's $2.5M saved with the smaller processor.

That's a bit of a slippery slope, though. If you use the exact CPU needed today, you may well be putting yourself in a position to where a necessary patch could need "more" and not work in the future. You have to over-engineer slightly or you likely paint yourself into a corner on being able to release software patches. Same thing goes for memory. Sometimes you have to change the programming a bit to where it needs more RAM to run.

On the other hand, you wouldn't use a CPU/RAM that can support ten times what you need today because you're absolutely never going to provide for adding what it would take to consume those resources - especially if you're talking about the ability to monitor / control an additional module not currently present.

Sure, maybe. More so if you're Microsoft, Intel, etc. But not so much if you're GM. But you're talking like 5-10% additional capacity for unknowns. A whole new capability like this may require 10-20% more capacity all on it's own.

I was looking to get a loaded double cab with a sunroof. From what I see in the order guide, this isn't possible on the double cab model?

Ordering for Silverado and Sierra 1/2 Tons has been open for a week or two. I ordered a week ago and my order was accepted by GM on Tuesday the 15th. I have a GM order number but don't have pricing yet.

Android Auto is not going to require a hardware upgrade and "may be available at production start". If not it will be a software change available soon. The vehicle system primarily relies on the phone software and at this time the phone must be plugged in USB to work. There will likely be significant changes in the next year or two, some may involve hardware.

Edit-For Android your phone must be running Lollipop 5 or higher and you download the Android Auto App

So is the screen shrinking from 8 to 7 inches?

The screen is standard at 7" and the 8" is the upgrade with Intellilink on upper models.

IntelliLink with the 7-inch display is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The 8-inch system standard on SLE, SLT, All Terrain and Denali models (with navigation available) features Apple CarPlay compatibility at the start of the model year. Android Auto capability is scheduled to be available on the 8-inch system later in the model year.

Correct. Sunroof is Crew Cab only. Has been since 2014.

Thanks Galliher_nc,

Yes I knew about the 2014/15 model but was wishing I could get a sunroof in a double cab in 2016...

Seems silly because my 2009 extended cab LTZ has a sunroof...

I'm sure GM will be showing the 2016's off at the Texas state fair starting September 25th.

Can't wait to see them in person, also going to see the 2017 Super Duty there.
