Dead battery

I bought a brand new 15 Silverado about 2 weeks ago and it has sat in my shop for about 6 days untouched. Go to fire it up and it won't start... typical weak battery. Now... I dumped the F150 I had to get this truck because it would kill it's battery overnight and Ford couldn't fix it..among transmission problems and sync issues it was a lemon.... all a really common issue. It's not the battery either... it's modules in the truck were killing them.. That ford would turn on the instrument cluster for no reason when parked... play the radio.. you name it. Nightmare.

Now this. So how common are these trucks a battery killing problem? No there was nothing turned on in it and the truck doesn't even have 500 miles on it. I haven't seen massive complaint threads over it like the Fords... just vibrations instead lol. I am going to put the same military battery in this new rig I run in my old ones... no I don't want a Delco... those battery's are junk in my opinion and I am assuming I just got another one that was no good from the start. I went through about 4 new Delcos in my 05 that I measured no draw in before I went with this one I have now and it can sit for months and fire up like nothing.

I will measure draw on the truck for fun anyway though... and no its not going to any dealer. I get really tired of hearing how everything is "normal". Incompetent for the gm dealers around here is an understatement...

Mine just sat for 5 weeks.

It started without problem.

Truck has about 10,000 miles.

Go to the dealer. Have them test it and replace it if they determine it is junk. Save yourself the $$$$. Its under warranty...DON'T be stupid...

Haven't had any problems either. My truck is starting to crank slower after 2 years now. I'll probably be replacing the battery shortly.

Lol. You are a funny guy and I know nobody gets it.... But don't attempt to insult my intelligence when you have no idea about the situation. I wouldn't let these clowns out here touch my wheelbarrow. .. and by the time I drive around easily a couple hundred miles to get to a maybe smart enough dealer to just do their job... I have bought a new battery in my wasted time. It's not never ending city here with 10000 gm dealers to run too... it's never ending monotony lol. Did you not see i said i don't want nor have any luck with Delco batteries... so why then would i want another, free or not?

They aren't touching this truck, period... ever. This isn't my first rodeo with a gm truck my friend... I have had a lot of them. I buy whatever brand based on what I like for features and not because I think I will get stellar warranty service. I am tuning the truck immediately... like in the next couple days... warranty means absolutely nothing to me. I want a reliable truck and the Ford I had before this most certainly was not. My old 05 Sierra is the best truck I have ever had... and probably will always be... but it needs to retire.

I am pretty sure it's just a shoddy battery and an isolated incident... I just win the dead battery award lol.

I get tired of such stupid replies that have nothing to do with the question asked.....Quit getting so bent out of shape over something that isn't your problem.

Thanks for being such a helpful person.... so move along!

My truck usually only gets started once a week and sometimes longer than that. After 13 months my battery is fine (truck had been sitting on the lot for 9 months before I bought it as well).

That's why I am pretty sure it's just a bad cell in the battery. I might get it load tested just to see before I haul it to the dump. I went through 4 of the largest available Delco's in my 05 in about 2.5 years time... get maybe a year at most out of them and then they would fail load test lol. Gm kept giving me new ones and then after number 4 I just told them to keep my old one and dispose of it. In the meantime I had about 2 other delco's on the go in other vehicles with the same issues... so I don't buy delco batteries anymore. I switched to an Odyssey and the 05 has been fine ever since... even if it sits 6 weeks or so. I need something that can sit in the cold and actually still start at the end of my day lol. I don't want to use the 18 volt drill battery jump start method lol.

I have never heard of anyone having so many problems with batteries. 4 batteries in 2.5 years? I changed the battery once in my Jetta in the 8 years I had it. I would expect 3-4 years at least for one battery, maybe 2-3 if the winters are bad but 4 in 2.5 years? then you have an issue with your ford, and now you new GM? I am not trying to be rude but there seems to be one common denominator in all of these battery issues. I live in MN so it does get cold here, maybe not as cold as Alberta but still,

I am going to lol if there is something wrong causing the battery to drain, I almost bet the battery is just fine...

Don't know what to say... I also own roughly a half a dozen vehicles at any given time and none of the rest have issues. Sitting inside, nothing turned on must be hard on them lol. I would expect 3 to 4 years too but I don't get that from all... some yep... not all. I have another 2013 F150 and it's battery is fine... hasn't died once in 2 years time. 2015 Tundra and it's all good as well...my old 86 K5 lasts for months and then randomly goes dead.... it's my last remaining Delco battery too lol. It's just shitty batteries... well except the f150 that they couldn't figure out and there is dozens of threads about it with no resolution from anyone. WIth the exception of the F150 my common denominator was Delco batteries..... once I go to another brand I don't touch them again.

Maybe... and if it's that bs again i will just dump it for another truck lol. That's why I will check for a drain first. I did a Google search yesterday and did find dealerships even complaining a bunch of their new trucks on the lot were going dead until they swapped the battery and then they seemed fine with these 2014+ ones. So it's not just me.

When I went to one of the dealer to first look at the new GMC planning on buying one that day, the truck I was looking at didn't start and needed a boost already. So walked away from it then. Few months after decided to take a chance and go get one anyways and I work out of town and it's parked between 2 to 3 weeks at the time and has starts no problems. I used to drive a 2010 Silverado few years back and had it with me when working in Cold Lake AB and with the temperatures up there I had to change battery in it too. So on your side with that one.

The original battery in my 2002 model died on me in 2013, that's 11 years. I couldn't believe it lasted that long but started to get worried so I began carrying one of those boost jumpers that you charge up. I also had a 2004 Tacoma (should have never got rid of that truck) but the battery fell flat after only 3 years. Worked fine one day and the next day nothing.
