Synthetic Oil - Better MPG ?

Correct.......hence the reason I waited until 2200 miles before the switch to full synthetic.

Actually a car engine should be broken in after 1k miles, assuming you have had enough Heating and Cooling cycles.

By broke in, I'm talking between 40k and 80k. That's what I was told from my amsoil dealer.

I'm amazed that a dealer told you it takes 40k - 80k miles to break in an engine.

To my understanding.....assuming enough heating and cooling cycles.....motorcycles are about 600 miles, and cars/trucks are about 1k miles.

Every vehicle I've owned has had a maximum break-in period of 1500 miles including performance vehicles.

What about all those Corvettes (since the ZR1) and Cadillac's that got synthetic oil at the factory, its obvious those broke in.

My '09 came with synthetic oil and it broke in, I have never added more than a 1/3 qt of oil per oil change of 7,5000 miles.

I plan to switch to a full synthetic soon myself. I've run Mobil 1 in my stang (4.6) since the 2nd (I think) oil change. Don't remember if it helped mpg or not, that was years ago. I do get 23-24 mpg tho and I do NOT baby the throttle in that thing either.

No issues switching over to synthetic on a new vehicle. I have done it with out issues on our 2008 Acadia and now on our 2011 Acadia, as well as my 2013 Camaro with the 6.2. All run great. Oh and my 2002 was switched over as well when I purchased it back in 2001.

 

You get the full benefit of synthetic oil where mpg is concerned when you switch over the entire drive-line to synthetic. Better lubrication and cooling for the transmission as well as the differential.

 

As for mpg increase, I switched right away so I can't say my mpg improved from conventional to synthetic.
