Recall 15304 Transfer Case Reprogram and Set Up

Had the service done on my 2015 Z71. Here's what the invoice reads:

Recall #15304 performed recall #15304 on transfer case and performed transfer case set up. Warranty claim code for reprogram is 1A3A3. Warranty claim code for set up is FDC01.

So it looks like they do something besides a reprogram. Does anyone know what this set up change might be?

FWIW, the truck drives much better.

Thanks for reading.

The tccm reprogram is a two step process. First is the software update then you need to relearn the tccm shift positions (the setup). All in the transfer case module.

When does the relearn process take place, and who does this?

The relearn step is done by the dealer immediately after the program is updated

Is it even possible that the dealer could do just the program update and not the relearn step? I had my truck in a couple of weeks ago for the update but did not notice any improvement in driveability. specifically I still have a low speed decel clunk that I was hoping this recall was going to fix. Some guys on here are adamant that this update improved their shift feel and clunky driveline.

I'm confused about the transfer case relearn process because when you all talk about a transmission being reprogrammed, it relearns shifting by driving the vehicle.

Transfer case setup just learned the position so it knows if its in 2wd or 4wd. If the setup isn't completed there would be a service 4wd message on dash. It only take couple seconds to complete setup. Transmission programming and setup is completely different as it has to learn the adapts.

If someone programmed the tccm and did not run the setup it should have a c038d code and a "service 4wd message". Haven't tried it though. Maybe on the next one I do, I'll take a look to see what happens.

The Range Actuator Learn procedure must be performed in order for the transfer case control module to learn current clutch tolerance based on clutch stackup and accumulated clutch wear.

That was my understanding also

Ok, that makes sense now. Thank you guys for answering my questions.

So what are your thoughts on this recall? Is it helping the drivability or not? Because I do feel it helped with some of the minor annoyances of the daily driving. The main one is what I describe as fluttering when trying to give moderate throttle. Like it didn't know what gear to be in and it hesitated a bit until you gave it even more throttle. All that is gone now.

Thanks again.

I've had no thumps since it was done.

The transmission will still downshift every now and then and rev the engine as it picked two low of a gear.

The truck is still going through the gears smoother than before.

It does nothing for driveability as it does not do anything to the TCM (Transmission control module), the TCCM (Transfer Case Control Module) is what is reprogrammed, the recall is so that the transfer case doesn't get hosed during cold weather when left in auto or 4wd as some were doing last winter.
