Which motor oil/filter?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I am sorry if this is a repeat question...I searched but didn't find any posts about it. What motor oil is everyone running? I know the F-150s like Motorcraft oil and filters, is there a particular oil/filter that work best with Chevy/GMC engines?

Thanks!!!

Whatever the dealer uses. Sticker says Dexos which is not a brand....so not sure what brand. Well guess I was no help lol. I see alot of guys saying they use Mobil 1 or Amsoil for full synthetic though.

Mobil 1 0W-20 here. Usually priced between $23-26 per 5 quart jug at Walmart. I see that Walmart has Pennzoil 0W20 Platinum is currently on sale for $22.65 for a 5 quart jug. That would also be a good choice.

I have been using a Fram Ultra XG10575 for the oil filter. Really well constructed filter. Here are some pics of one I took apart after use: http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/topics/3534172/Cut_open:_Used_Fram_Ultra_XG10

I use Pennzoil Platinum with a Bosch filter. They are a winning pair.

mobil 1 after 1996,

and a billet filter for the oil cooler/towing.

that added up fast, before synthetic. Just clean the filter, throw it back in.

it also allows to see what is getting munched. Bearings is usually first.

if to go regular filter, I like the k&n with relief valve...or wherever I can find one with that.

I like Pennzoil platinum oil and the Napa Gold 7045 oil filter. The k&n HP 2011 is great also and usually comes as an oil change special package from advance auto parts. Last month, advance auto parts had 5 quarts of Pennzoil platinum and the k&N hp 2011 filter on sale for $26.99, I grabbed 2 of them!

You can compare, side by side, various oils at the....

http://www.pqiamerica.com

They do comparisons of oil makeup and you can determine what you like from that. Takes a little digging around the site, as it is not as "user friendly" as some sites are, but the time is well worth it. Scroll down the long page and you can find comparisons between 0w20, 5w20, 5w30, 10w30. The list specs, but they are primarily showing what is making up each oil, the technical aspects.
