My adventure shopping for a used 2010/2011 5.3L or 6.2L truck

It just would have ran probably in the low octane table most of its life. That and the elevation we are at helps. It will be fine honestly. Did he say who tuned it? I hope it's not Westers..... if it is get GM to flash the thing back to stock lol.

Fair enough. No he didn't say. He said.

Yeah I had a custom tune done. Basically what I did was get rid of the speed limiter and decrease the torque management

I'll make sure I ask tomorrow.

It's funny too how you mention the grade of gas he runs.. it's more common than people running premium in my opinion. I fill up at a Co-op cardlock and it happens to be about 1 of 3 in the province with a premium pump... but there is only one pump for premium fuel. I have seen countless Denali's, Escalades and 6.2 trucks roll through and not one fills with anything but 87. I'm the dork that is always at the premium pump but it makes you have a different perspective on it. Even a guy in an SS Gen 5 Camaro was filling up with regular... guys just don't care lol.

Lol. Yes the computer is smart enough to compensate for the octane but you should always run what the engineering group designed the whole motor to. 87 would burn quite quirk for a 6.2.

Here is a really interesting tidbit put together by /drive the car site. I think most of this stuff is common knowledge but maybe not.

Oh it's no magic.... they just drop into the low octane spark table once the knock gets severe enough. I looked at the difference between the two tables on my 2015 6.2 as I pulled it's calibration with EFILive and it's pretty big...... I might do the changes I want with my HP tuners software though as EFILive is kind of goofy with the latest trucks.... or have New Era burn me a tune and go the easy way out. Anyways I laugh at the one guy in the 2014+ section telling me his 2014+ 6.2 trucks run great on 87..... well if that's all you ever run you would expect how doggy they would be as the norm I guess lol. My 2015 has been awesome from the gate but it's first fuel fill other than whatever the factory dumps in was premium so it's never been exposed to 87. The 2015 SS Camaro rental I had in Houston was awful....... what a dud. It was a L99 car of course but the thing had trouble getting out of it's own way. I was filling it with premium so I did the ECM fuse pulls as per the Camaro forums to reset the ECM and it made a substantial difference in power. GM doesn't put the premium fuel recommendation on them because they set the ECM up for regular fuel as a norm...... but to people gas is gas and premium is too expensive lol.

Thank you all for the help. Definitely have narrowed down the right truck I think.

Interior is in pretty good shape actually, no wear on the seat. Pretty happy. I also can't believe how easy it is to get in and out. I am sure the height of the floor is the height of my stock F150 running boards. So nice. The 6.2 is great. Runs good, no noise or weird ticks. Honestly the truck is pretty great for 140,000km and 5 years old. Box and bed liner don't look used (compared to most of the other trucks I saw). Just a couple concerns but I am being pretty picky:

- The rear right rim has a good gash. Didn't notice any vibration and he said it balanced fine.

- Needs to be aligned again. Recently did the front ball joints and front struts but steering wheel is off center.

- He bought it at 130,000km. It was a plumbing companies work truck before he got it.

- He is a tech at GM, so that could either be GOOD that he bought it but just doesn't want it anymore. or BAD that he is getting rid of it.

- He mentioned that there is faint piston slap when cold at start up. Said nothing to worry about and it typical of the motor. Makes sense based on what I've read and he easily could have NOT told me about it. The truck was warm.

- The fan down button on the dash is worn out. Not sure why, someone hates fans maybe? Hahah

- Same with the front bumper, nothing major but starting to show wear where all GM bumpers do on that little steel piece.

- Had it tuned in the last 10,000km and said it is pretty mild. Started with a diablo tuner and used EFI-Live to tweak it a bit. I asked if he would flash it back to stock and he said no problem.

- We've agreed between 23 and 24k depending on how the inspection goes.

- My worry is that he is from a small town, where there is only one GM dealer, so the one he works at. IF he wanted he could totally fudge the report. However so far he has told me things he could have easily left out if he was trying to screw me (piston slap) plus my gut on this guy was good. Plus he could have left out he worked at GM and 'got it inspected' for me. He said he will also get me the service history. Seemed like a nice guy.

- He said he would get it detailed before as well. Let me take a picture of the VIN so I could do my own checking on it as well.

Overall pretty happy with it I think. See how the inspection goes from here.

ChevyJoe, I was so busy looking at it I forgot to take some pictures. I did get the VIN though to do my own research on it.

Here are some pictures from the kijiji article.

So this is awesome, have checked out two identical trucks now. Very similar build sheets, km and price. So now I can pit them against each other. Also was able to pull the GM Canada report on both (don't ask) and both have had very minor warranty over their lives. I do feel like the Sierra was beat on a bit more though... inspection on #1 is being done tomorrow and #2 sometime this week.

Second one is a GMC though but has 150,000km, no Navi but rear entertainment and the trailer tow package with the 3.73. I still prefer the Rocky one (first one pictured above).

:D

Looks like I'll be joining the GM 6.2L family soon regardless. LOL

Don't ask me what the hell that red wiring under the dash is for. No idea....

Well I got the Rocky 2010 after a bit of back and forth. Get it next weekend, has an oil change and detail booked this week. Ordered winters today with studs going to be awesome. Excited!
