2016's at LA Auto Show (pic heavy)

I swung by the LA Auto show today to see the new trucks from GM and others. Here are some pics and comments.

The new High Country grill looks better than I expected in person.

The articulating steps are cool but I noticed they have a slight bit of wobble when in position, like as if the pin that locks it is too small for the hole. The swivel to the back is good, but again when it you step on it there is the weird looseness about it. All trucks that had them felt the same.

The LTZ grill I still can't warm up to.

Interiors are same as my 2015. I had read somewhere the rear headrests were larger but not in these show units.

The locking tailgate is very quiet, not loud like our pop n lock units many of us have installed. It sounds just like the door locks. Oh and there are the LED tail lights.

This blacked out HD looks nice.

New Sierra tail lights. They look yellowish in the pic but they are all red.

Is this a new Sierra wheel?

Sierra LED headlights are bright, they lit up the area noticeably even with all the lights on in the convention hall when I switched them on for this pic.

The questionable gap in the front.

Leads to this!

Now here is a reason to make a hole!

OK back to trucks. Nice detail on the lights, do they think we are going to be looking at them this close? Yes!

Looks like they tinted the lenses on everything.

Floor guy said these longer cross bars are available now, will have to check into that. Previously I think they only fit Clorado/Canyon.

These are not pink in real life they are red. Need to check my camera settings.

Never knew about the redline. The gmc is looking better to me in these pics. Want to see more pics of that brown but in natural light. Thanks for all the pics.

Thanks for taking the time to post all these pictures.

Cool pics, thanks for sharing.

I'm intrigued by the bed cross-bars. Wonder if they are strong enough to support bike racks & bikes.

Nice pictures. The GMC logo on the front grilles is annoyingly LARGE. And that denali grille is beyond ridiculous.

The Silverado updates are pretty nice. Not nice enough for me to trade in my '14...

Great pics. Thanks for taking the time to share them with us. I like the Redline. I'm not digging the brown color on vehicles. There is a new brown Ford truck at work.....ugh! JMO.

Nice job, very well done. As good or better than some of the pros.

AFAIK it is the same Gearon system as for the Colorado/Canyon.

That would be my application also.

The new trucks looked better than I expected, I guess it's all a matter of taste.

I left with a good feeling that compared to the 2016's I wasn't missing anything with my 2015 Silverado.

I also really like the new metallic white paint which is a true white.

The previous Diamond White was too yellowish for my taste so I went with Summit White.

There were a few things I liked in the competitors trucks:

The Ford sunroof is gigantic.

The Ram trucks have an available Alpine sound system with a rear seat sub that kicks butt on our Bose console sub.

One thing GM needs to do is add rear vents in the crews for passengers.

All other manufacturers had them in the back of the consoles.

I am 100% opposed to owning painted bumpers, unless it is a lease. But this truck looks good! I cringe at the ride quality of 22's on these trucks.

Great pics, thanks!

I'm not a fan of the LED strips in the head lamp assy, looks stupid!

Same style setup that GM had at the Texas state fair, cool stuff!

Yes those are the new SLT wheels, ugh

Hood and grill gap are for new Duramax coming to the HD trucks, blocked off in half tons, guessing you guys will see some cool aftermarket cold air intakes coming out in the future, lower grill hole should make for a nice trans cooler.

They must take the same road show to every venue. I was looking for the red Z71 from the first photos but strangely I did not see it.

It could have been out in the try/drive area maybe.

Thanks for the likes everyone, much appreciated.

    • Yes, and also pulling heavy trailers or a large camper up steep grades as well as descending grades such as the more rustic off road camping locations and using engine braking with that low gearing as well as soft ground can just suck the power . I realize pickups these days tend to have an over all lower first gear ratio compared to automatic transmission pickups from years back so that has helped a lot in its ability in high range but there comes a point if in four wheel drive the torque runs out at the wheels, certainly with a gas engine. They don't put two speed transfer cases on pickups for a cool factor, they have a function if one needs that massive torque to the wheels that high range can't deliver.
    • Notes 7/18/2026   3,400 miles on this batch of Mobil 1 Euro 5W40 since the GDI pump replacement. Alcohol runs very clean when ring seal is tight and the sump isn't getting hosed with fuel. Checked oil level at fill up today as is my practice and grabbed a white Kleenex to look at the color. What color?  I was going to change it but.....
    • 4 low is really nice on steep boat ramps.
    • Interesting, I suspect I would have fueled up in Lee Vining as the day prior I would have filled up either in Laughlin or near there and maybe again before I entered Death Valley and once out the other side late that evening as I kept on driving into the night up near Lee Vining. Next morning I most likely fueled up in LV before heading over Tioga Pass into ( as I refer to it as "Yose .... Mite" 😁 ). And again that was 19 years ago but the price then must not have jumped out at me like the 5 bill a gallon theme of nutty cult hippy country Big Sir or head so far up their rear Aspen. I'd be curious to know where the highest prices are in the lower 48, I probably would not be far off to guess somewhere in Cali forn ie. Coldfoot and Prudhoe bay may have those prices beat but that is a whole other world up there and when prices are more normal elsewhere that is about what they can be up there I believe in no mans land. Anyway interesting that the 395 corridor is hosing people and the thing is, its tourist season and its not like there are a lot of competition options when driving up that highway from what I could see. Yup, big ole Boaterhomes and various other RV's ahead and behind me at the Yosemite entrance gate and they have to get their fuel somewhere.
    • Those can be high, as well as the big California cities. The ones that will pop your eyes out are the 395 corridor on the Eastern side of the Sierra Nevadas. Lee Vining, $7.19 for regular and $8.89 for diesel is what the Google said right now.
