I just got mine back from the dealership for the same issue. Try this link below. You can access the ground by popping off the a-pillar cover. See if the plastic piece is under the nut on the ground terminal. Mine was. They also replaced both battery cables and the terminal block. I've had it back for a week now and so far it seems to be fixed.

yeah they fixed it as far as I can tell cost me $358 gm denied to pay for it. I guess a battery cable is only good for a couple of years on these trucks. Now I have a service trailer brake error on my DIC ....

Honestly, reading all of this is making me really worried about my 2015 half ton Sierra.

Maybe I should go get an HD and stick with hydraulic power steering. All these electronics are becoming a serious problem.

Get an HD or better yet a Tundra.....My problem is back and GM doesn't take care of their customers....but if you've read around on this forum you'd probably know this

Honestly, new vehicles are wearing me out, before they are suppose to wear out!

I don't have the energy or desire to fight with all the bullshit that comes with all of this technology. So far my truck has been OK, but who's to say that will last? I phoned my dealer on this problem and they said the only time this kind of thing happens is when the steering motor isn't getting the proper voltage. With all the electronically controlled components on these vehicles, if the battery is bad or the electrical system isn't 100% healthy, things go ape shit bananas.

Based on my research, every vehicle has problems. I don't want to drive an older vehicle, so that leaves me with newer technology that proves problematic regardless of the logo on the front grill.

I agree I told my wife tonight that I'll just sell this sack of shit and buy a 60's or 70's truck and be damned before I'm held back by electronics. My family and business have always drove GMC Sierra but I'll be damned if I give them one more dollar after the way they have treated me over this truck. GM sold out and cut costs and sold an inferior product to the public, you can read from one user that the vehicles GM sells the government are made to a different standard than the shit it sells us poor common folk. I was sold by its sexy looks but it turns out I bought the head cheerleader with daddy issues that is 100% crazy and unreliable, I won't make that mistake again. I will say that the Tundra has proven reliable for my in-laws and I took a lot of shit for buying a GM instead of another brand. GM will not get my next 50k Toyota will.

But, Toyota has problems too. That's my point, they are all suffering from issues.

Toyota has replaced more frames than a person could shake a stick at. The interiors are outdated designs and materials are just so so. The engine bay, even on the 2016's, is significantly more narrow than a GM truck, they are a real bitch to wrench on. The engine is also set further back into a recessed firewall, again, a real PIA.

Don't be fooled by the Toyota of yesteryear. They are surviving on the name and reputation they earned 20 years ago. Toyota is just as bad if not worse these days for denying warranty claims and saying "too bad so sad" to many issues. Toyota is purely profit driven, money hungry living off of the name. People are very misinformed about that.

I had a 2014 Silverado that was the biggest pile I've ever purchased. I came from a 2003 Silverado that was great to me so I thought it would be a no brainer to upgrade to the 2014. I couldn't keep it out of the shop. I finally cut my losses and bought a new Tundra. Who knew that a brand new truck could shift correctly with 2 miles on the odometer, no "learning to shift so be patient with it for a few thousand miles" BS that I got from GM. That 2014 spent more time in the shop than in my driveway for more problems than I'd like to admit. Honestly, I could go off on a huge rant, but I won't. Anyways, I've had this 2016 Tundra now for 6 months. You know how many problems I've had with it...zero. The 5.7 power plant is a beast and its buttery smooth at all speeds. So yeah, it may be a little tight under the hood, but I won't be wasting my weekends working on it either because it runs, unlike the 2014 POS.

Good luck with thinking you made the move to a bullet proof machine.

The Toyota 5.7 is troubled deeply with it's own problems. Water pumps on those engines are a common failure, as in every 2 or 3 years, you will likely be doing one. The knock sensors fail ALOT, this tricks the ECU into thinking the engine is on E85 all the time. This advances the timing so far the engine pre detonates. Consumer affairs gives the Toyota Tundra an overall rating of 2 stars out of 5. What else? Growling front differentials, god awful frames that corrode extremely easy, the list is endless. I wouldn't call the 5.7 a beast, it's equivalent to the direct injected 5.3, except the GM 5.3 is nowhere near as hard on fuel at the Toyota 5.7 is. GM interior is far nicer than the Toyota. The Toyota interior is out of the 90s!

What's my point? Just as easily as you rant about how crappy a GM truck is, Toyota is no better. ANY BRAND MACHINE will have problems, especially in this day and age where the name of the game is mass production for profit. Vehicles today are built for profit at a breakneck pace, not for quality or bulletproof reliability.

Like I said before, the 2014 spent more time in the shop than in my own driveway. Within the first 6 months of owning it, it had the water pump, radiator, heated seat replaced twice, transfer case replaced, all 4 chrome 20"s replaced for peeling chrome, receiver hitch replaced, sunroof motor replaced because it wouldn't close, front shock replaced, I can keep going if you'd like. Thant was all in the first 6 months of ownership. The Tundra has been flawless since I bought it 6 months ago. All mechanical things will have issues now and then, but that 2014 Silverado was a POS.

I wanted to post here to let people know that my electrical problems are back and way worse. My truck began acting up while merging onto the freeway and the stability control began trying to adjust the direction I was driving and was pulling me into the next lane of traffic. I decided to go straight to the dealer, but before I could get there, the truck completely died in traffic and was stuck for just over 10 minutes. It suddenly started again and I tried pulling it into a parking lot, but I lost all steering and brakes and coasted into the middle of the lot. I had it taken to the dealer, but I have no confidence that they will find the problem or will be able to fix it.

I just wanted to post this just in case others have the issue, they will know the original solution I posted did not fix the problem.

My 2014 Sierra is doing the same. The dealership performed the power steering recall, but they said its more than that causing my stabilitrak, powerstearing, AC, headlights to all turn off. They said its my negative power cable? How does this go bad?

    • Still looks like a rivet to me in the pics, I don't see a nut and none of the pics show the head of the screw. But if you says so.....
    • Thanks for all the help so far!   I did try right from 2026 right down to 2021, and only from 2023 down lets me select the option for tire psi change, but I get the vehicle not supported error!   I'll definitely try it under Chevrolet after work today, and I'll get the sensor number from gm for my truck tire sensors. And I'll let you know if it works for me under Chevrolet!   And if that doesn't work, I'm going to guess that what @Atlas said about maybe I have a different body control module could be true!
    • From where I'm sitting this sounds like a compatibility problem. I'm assuming the 2007 was a 900-series truck, and not an 800-series (they were sold side-by-side in dealerships that model year), since it starts and runs.   This is why I HATE post-2006 vehicles. Everything becomes a huge problem when you try to keep the thing running for longer than the manufacturer has designed it to.    I can't remember when Global-A architecture started - either '10 or '11. For your sake, you had better hope it's '11, or you're going to be spending some BIG money to correct this cluster-eff. That's something you need to find out before doing anything else. You may have several computers bricked ... but the fact that it runs tells me you MIGHT be ok here.     EDIT: Just did a quick refresher. You're screwed. This is Global-A. The 2 systems are NOT compatible in the slightest. Once you get the correct engine in there that IS compatible, you're going to need to see how many computers are locked. Absolute NIGHTMARE to straighten out, too. Your buddy might be better off cutting his losses and finding something else.   Welcome to post-2006 vehicle electronics. This is why I quit the industry, and drive nothing built after 1994. This stuff takes all the fun out of wrenching!

Upgrades: replaced 'steelies' w/  Vision "Flow" black alloys,  17x8.5"; HDX nerf bar w/steps (black powdercoat); Weatherguard large/deep alloy saddle toolbox; Michelin fitted bedmat (sale, perfect fit) Weathertech door sill guards TBD: rear wheebox liners 4x black fender arch trim - searching for best  (Putco: chrome only; not looking for flares either!) -Bill
    • True, hard to say what differences there may or may not be between Chev and GM as well as a production year or mid year part change either.    I just found it odd that under the Sierra choice on the Autel that many of the last few years of production year did not include the choice of changing the tire pressure but if that is an Autel thing or a GM thing as to why the choices were not there. Knowing what tpms sensors are on the truck should give some guidance into which choices on the tool even make sense to try as I wouldn't give up just yet with the tool but I guess he will see what if anything he comes up with if he finds out a bit more info and tries a few more things on the Autel.
