Anyone with a 1inch level or 1.5" leveling kit

There isn't much of a difference. But if I had to do it over again I probably would do 1.5 but I am happy with the 1". I think 1.5 is a good compromise.

I kind of like that the motofab 1.5 are painted black to match the lower arm.

 

Pretty sure the dealer could tell either way.

Can anyone provide any input on ride change/quality with the 1.5" kit? Also, I know these are trucks, but how did it affect fuel mileage by lifting the nose up into the air a bit more? Also, last but not least, what about the factory warranty if I install myself, will it void?

 

I would say the ride quality for me stayed pretty close to the same, but I went with P rated tires. If you are wanting 10ply you might get a little stiffer ride. My best stock mpg for a 50 mile trip was 25.5. After the level, 1in bigger tires, and removal of the air dam I got just over 23 on the same trip. Not sure what the difference is for the bigger tires, but lets say .5 mpg and I would have been close to 24. On the interstate going 70 I can usually get 20 mpg and once I hit 73-80 it drops down to 17 or so. I noticed I have a torn boot and will be taking it in for its last free oil change and I'll see if they say anything. I drove through a frozen plowed field a couple of weekends ago while hunting and the suspension definitely got a workout but I couldn't tell that I was maxing it out. Overall I am very happy with the 1.5in level.

Blocks arrived today.

 

Anyone have all the torque specs for the different bolts listed in this install?

 

Is there a write up anywhere?

I installed the Motofab 1.5" level kit on my Denali today. I also used a 1/4" steel spacer to shim up the Magnetic Ride sensor arm plate. I did the right side first so I could verify the arm retained the same geometry as the unaltered one on the left side. I'm happy with the way it looks unloaded, but after I had the front end aligned, I picked up my small trailer that was loaded with a sod cutter. Just those alone made the nose pitch up. Nothing crazy mind you, but I was happy to disconnect the trailer!

Yes, I think the 1.5 level is about perfect for these trucks. Truck also rides much better when compared to 2in + level.

 

How so? Unless it is a preload which most aren't, there isn't any change in spring or shock rates. I can see too much lift causing full compression or drop harshness but regular ride everyday shouldn't change anything unless you are going to an LT tire from a P rated tire...

It's about the angle that the suspension is to the ground and truck. When a spacer is added, the suspension is pushed down and in towards the frame. Even with an alignment, the tire will still be closer to the frame than stock. This means that the angle between the LCA and the shock is steeper, which means it will take more force to "push" the shock up and compress the spring.

 

I've added leveling kits, both Bilstein and spacers, to all of the big three trucks, and this is always the result when you hit a certain height.

It seems to me that the ride isn't as good in the front now.

It's more stiff. It's hard to believe a 1.5" spacer will do this.

I would gladly pay more for a level truck from the factory that has the ability to self level in the rear when loaded or pulling a trailer. (Like the Yukon XL Denali does)

The LCA is on a floating pivot, the only added force it requires is the weight of the control arm itself and weights attached to it (the angle to which it moves down with the added spacer is a couple of degrees, negliglbe in the amount of force it takes to move or add). What drives the force to push or compress the spring and shock is just that, those two. They aren't changing, if so all the big suspension companies (rough country, tuff country, ready lift, ect) wouldn't be advertising "keep the stock ride" if it suddenly made it worse; pretty sure they would have come across that in all the R&D they did.

But the ride is never "the same as stock." That statement is a marketing gimmick to get you to buy their kit. And to the majority of people, the ride doesn't change significantly enough to for them to complain about. And you're correct that the force does not change. Those couple of degrees are not negligible though. GM, not the aftermarket companies, are the ones who spend the money to get the ride and suspension geometry correct to fit the masses. That's also why you'll never see a truck lifted with a spacer from the factory. Something like the Raptor, will a completely new IFS setup, is required to get the ride back into their parameters. Physics and geometry will tell you that when a load (the force of the shock on the LCA) moves closer to its pivot point (where the LCA connects to the frame) the force will increase. The suspension also moves in an arc, so the tires also have to move out, away from the frame, to go up, which also requires more force.

I plan on running the motofab 1.5" on my Silverado with the ko2 275/60/20.

Was nervous of rubbing but I see a few running them on the gmc. Ordering tires in the next couple days. Rims are all ready ordered. Just wondering are the gmc and Silverado wheel well the same or is their a size difference?
