Anyone with a 1inch level or 1.5" leveling kit

That's exactly what I thought, the front wheel well is smaller than the rear. people measures the wheel arch height but I don't think that's the way that you should determine that.

 

There's a diagram floating around here somewhere showing that the ground-to-fender height would lead you to believe there is a bigger rake then if you just measure the ground-to-cab height. I can't find the pic right now though.

that's what I was going by saying a inch lift or 1.5" leveling kit. the running boards are mounted to the bottom of the cab and those are what I looks at when I says level. By looking at my truck now it probably need1 1.25" or 1.5" to be level. also I wonder do longer wheelbases have different rakes than the standard wheelbase?

Do you have either side on view of the truck?

I have bilstein 5100s set at the middle setting. It's about 1.25" of lift. Perfect height for my taste.

Not really, I am not a huge fan of leveling kits because if you hauls items in your bed often the front always sticks up a mile. if its your preference go for it. But I am not...

I personally think all these leveling kits that use blocks in the front are just junk. No offense to anyone who uses them, but you're putting $100 kit onto a $50k vehicle and these front block kits are well known to cause issues w/ ball joints and tire wear- that's not an opinion, it's a fact (personal experience included w/ a Toyota Tacoma)

 

I opted to go w/ the bilstein 5100 leveling shocks and also ordered a ready lift 2.25" rear block kit- you get about 2" of lift in the front w/o effecting suspension geometry or tire wear, the rear 5100s are an inch longer than stock shocks so I can add 1" of height to the rear as well w/ the 2.25" block kit effectively eliminating the possibility of rear sag even w/ weight in the bed or towing.

That's part of the reason why I don't want to go with a 2 inch level it may lead to issues, I known on the last generation of the Silverado's people had issues with the kits. I never had a leveling kit before but I might try a 1/2 inch lower strut spacer, that equals a inch fount lift. I may get bilsteins in the future.

 

I'm wondering which is better? a top strut spacer or bottom? I might

I have a 1.5" level with 275/65r20 open country. I like it so far front fenders are both 38 3/4" rear is 39.5" just a very slight rake.

I can't remember the brand but it was just two small socket looking spacers mounted under the shocks.

I have no tire wear with my level kit and no one else should either with a proper alignment. Also i could be wrong but i am thinking that 5100s will change the front suspension geometry too.

I Raised mine 1.25 inches with 1/2 inch blocks under the struts. This leveled my truck but I have loaded toolboxes in the rear all the time.post-137309-0-09073000-1450719770.jpeg

I keep debating about leveling it 1.5" or 2" or at all. I tow a boat and it's not like it's all the time and hauling is usually to Home Depot and back every now and then. Most of the time it's in the day, but sometimes at night. When towing the boat to the keys this past summer and the bed loaded down with luggage and dive equipment I was constantly getting brights flashed at me. It definitely had some squat.

Think Im going to go with the Bilsteins. There is a lot of people between 1.5-2", so why not go with the Bilsteins and get 1.8" and even adjustable less if need be.

If anyone wants a 1.5" level I have a set I would ship to your door for $25. It's just 4 spacers that mount under the struts. I can't remember the brand. Had it on my truck for 6,000 miles then went with the Rough Country 2.5".

I don't remember the exact numbers when I measured my fenders but I still had a noticeable rake you can see in my pictures above.

I having a hard time deciding between a 1in or 1.5in spacer. I want at least 1.5in or rake. I don't carry anything in the back, except for a regular tool box, loaded with junk.

I have a 2013 Silverado 1500 Z71 package. Anyone running a 2.5" leveling kit on the front and leaving the factory 1.5"factory blocks in the back?

    • I like the idea.  I would pick diesel if I had a choice. I need pictures though.
    • I've installed cheap eBay new aftermarket digitizers before.  They work.  Did a bunch of Cadillac CUE (aka Cadillac's MyLink) for someone years ago.  They all worked fine after the repair.    That number 22740886, that is a component part # for GM.  You can use it to search, but its not something that's obtainable at the dealer level.     So pretty much any of these will work - 2015 Colorado Digitizer for sale | eBay
    • Black bumper and the later years Z-71 style color matched grille.
    • You can install tailpipes that direct the exhaust sideways vs the OEM one that goes straight back. There are several on the market, do you own research. HOWEVER, you need to make sure the Venturi vents are still intact, otherwise it will throw a engine code. There is a sensor somewhere that detects back pressure on the exhaust. And if it doesn't collect the correct metrics, it will throw the truck into limp mode. 
    • "Teardown" is complete. Head surfaces are clean and ready, new intake is prepped and ready. Coolant drained and water pump is removed, radiator is removed, new hoses and pump are ready.   The replacement intake is also from a '95 (with I think 260k, the odometer said). Noticeably less pitting where it covers the rear coolant passages. I'm not sure if that's a tribute to more frequent use, more frequent coolant changes/upkeep, or if the intake was machined at some point. But it appears I found a good one.   My coolant hoses were original, and the lower hose still retained the factory spring inside. It's not really rusty, but it's got deposits all over it. Unsure if I should re-install it (will thoroughly clean it first). Someone said hose technology has gotten better since 1995 (has it?) and I don't need the spring. I think modern EPDM is what made those hoses last from 1995-2026, so it's a question of how much suction can the water pump really pull, and will it collapse the hose without a spring?   I'm stopped and waiting for parts, however.   When I first brought the truck home, the fan was intermittently hitting the radiator shroud. I could see someone had monkeyed with the shroud (put a bunch of cardboard as a spacer between the upper/lower shroud halves. Someone said the motor mounts have likely failed and the engine has sagged. I wasn't sure I believed that. The engine is really solid in its mounts: To remove the old intake I *just* nearly permanently welded to the heads with freshly cured RTV and gasket snot two weeks ago, I literally had to use the arms on my lift and a chain with a bolt attached to the intake to pull it loose. It almost picked the front of the truck off the ground before ....scuuuuuuuuuuup.... I could actually hear the gaskets tearing and it broke loose and the whole truck settled back down. Motor barely moved.   SO, those parts I'm waiting on... The lower radiator mounts/bushings had completely failed. The radiator needs to be insulated from the rad support, and the bushings help the rad stand at the correct height. The plastic "baffle" was also destroyed at some point. Someone had attached the shroud to it incorrectly, overlapping a joint that should have been underlapped, creating another suspect issue potentially causing things to hit the fan. Broken tabs, side is busted off, and it's perma-formed/bent where it was jimmied incorrectly.   The baffle? Unobtainum. Long since discontinued from GM, of course. Aftermarket/capa/chinese? Also unobtanium. In GM's infinite wisdom, it appears there are at least two different variations whether the Blazer is 2 or 4 door, and I can't yet tell if they shared the same part with the S-pickups. Plan B, if I can't find a viable used one, will be to create a bracket to re-assemble the critical joint I need to seal a gap with the shroud. But that will bug me, it won't be...perfect.   The water pump bolts appear to have been installed with...plumber's putty. I guess, sure, if it works...? I've found a few "backyard fixes" like that. Someone's been here before....   If I can't find someone to jam bamboo under my fingernails to fill my free time this week I think I'll install the driver's power window motor and replace the rear door speaker that's inop. I've got a genuine GM "9.5" ohm working replacement. Why GM used a non-standard resistance....nevermind. Of course they did, you can get more sound from a cheap factory amp that way.   And the saga goes on...
