Not a real frequent participant here because I have a build going on another forum that is vehicle specific. However, most of the builds there are not concerned with OEM restoration or at least keeping originality in the build.

 

So that said, here is the question:

 

What was the axle treament that GM put on the axles of their trucks in the mid to late 80s? Were they painted with something? If so, what color? Or,were they just left in the natural or oiled as cast or wrought state? :dunno:

 

They are currently a very orangish brown "patina." I am not real interested in coating option suggestions, I have a ton of those, but I would like to know what may have been on the vehicle to start with.
