Is It Possible To "Default" To No Headlights @ Start-up?

I'm not sure if this is even possible, but I don't like the fact that every time I start my truck (2014 Silverado High Country), that the headlights come on. I want the option to turn them on when needed, not automatically at each start-up.

Is this possible to change? Thanks - Rick

No its not, I have hated this since 2000, I used to have to hit the dome override 4 times to make them turn off (aka manual control).

On the new trucks turn the key two clicks then twist the light switch to the left to turn the lights off (aka manual control).

I opened up the switch housing, removed the return spring, reassembled and done.

Now I can keep the switch in the "Off" position. No DRL, no auto lights; just as it should be.

Why doesn't GM do like Chrysler, (and maybe Ford?) And have another option on the dial where it stays in a position which is Off. My parents jeep had this option and they traded that for a 300 and it also has the option of full time manual.

Probably must just be a safter thing and everyone except for a few of us would never want to manually control their lights anyway.

Darn I still would want DRL to work only because i like the look of the LEDs... wonder if there is a work around. On my Avalanche i moved a wire and the DRLS became Full Time :-)

It also bugs me that there is no way to tell if the lights are actually ON or not.

the little dash light isnt enough for you?

Are you referring to when DRL is on or when all of the exterior lights are on? No need to tell if the DRL is on because it is always on unless you turn it off or unless the AUTO has turned the other exterior lights on...LOL

I wouldn't like to disable the AUTO feature...I've gotten used to AUTO on/off and on with wipers!

Just exactly how hard was this procedure?

I would not call it hard, more slightly tricky due to the small parts involved.

I actually bought a replacement switch (ballpark $30 I think) so if things went horribly wrong I was safe.

There's a green light on the dash that will come on when the headlights are on.

The DRL lights auto turn on when you shift to drive. Doesn't show a icon for the headlights. Theres a thread on turning them off which just involves wiring the headlights into a relay on the parking lights. Retains the auto function but removes the DRL.

I assume you're talking about the Parking Lights - the two small green lights? That will illuminate any time your headlights are on, your fog lights are on, or if you manually rotate the light knob to that setting. There is no indication for regular LOW beams. There are only indications for FOG lights, HIGH beams, and PARKING. It's not a big deal, but I wonder why they don't have an indicator?

What does it take to remove the main panel that houses the switch itself?
