Is It Possible To "Default" To No Headlights @ Start-up?

I assume you're talking about the Parking Lights - the two small green lights? That will illuminate any time your headlights are on, your fog lights are on, or if you manually rotate the light knob to that setting. There is no indication for regular LOW beams. There are only indications for FOG lights, HIGH beams, and PARKING. It's not a big deal, but I wonder why they don't have an indicator?

If your fogs aren't on, your headlamps are on auto setting, that would mean the headlamps are on. The parking lights don't come on by themselves.

Here is a neat trick for any of you that like to roll with your parking lights and fog lights on all the time like I do, rotate the headlight switch to off to turn off daytime runninf lamps then press the fog light button, this will turn on fogs and parking lights with having to turn the switch to parking lights so you never have to worry about leaving lights on.

This is exactly what I do; I love being able to tap the fog lights "on" along with the parking lights.

Like I said, it's not a big deal. Sometimes I like to drive with my fogs on. If the weather gets bad, I also like my headlights on. I just don't know if they're already on or not. That was my point.

I think whenever you turn on the fogs, the headlights come on too.

I'd rather have the headlights and taillights on when not needed then off when they are. How many times to I see new Ford/Dodge products driving around in the middle of the night with only DRL.

No just the parking lights, headlights would require turning the knob to auto on headlights, only the parking lights come on when you turn the fog lights on.

My GMC Sierra SLT has the LED DRLs. Those come on when you turn on the fogs.

If I turn off the lights and then turn on the fogs the parking lights and the LED strip lights come on. I'd love to be able to lose the upper strip of LEDs.

Maybe here should be a clarification in the posts about Sierra or Silverado and trim level.

One use the surrounding LED's as DRL while the other uses the low beam as DRL, at least in 2014/2015.

2016 behavior is the same for both trucks.

So in my case with a Silverado my headlights are always on if I do nothing else.

Remove the side fuse panel, then pry off the dash piece that holds the switch.

Kevin, i gotta say... YOU ARE THE MAN! Just pulled the spring from my headlight switch and am very elated. Like you said, The procedure itself isnt hard, but not for the faint of heart. Just went slow and made sure i out everything back the exact way it was before, sans the spring. Perfect. Cant thank u enough. It was really a pet peeve of mine until now plus im sure my HID ballasts will be happier as well

Looking to do this mod sometime soon as well when the HID's get installed.

I opened up the switch housing, removed the return spring, reassembled and done.

Now I can keep the switch in the "Off" position. No DRL, no auto lights; just as it should be.

That's good thinking. Once you remove the spring, is there a detent that holds the switch in the off position, or does it just "float" between off and auto?
