2014 denali 1500 vs 2500 hd denali

I have found a used 2014 sierra denali 1500 with 6.2 and a 2014 sierra denali 2500 hd with 6.0 gas motor. I am wondering is there a significant difference in gas mileage between the two. I know diesel is better fuel mileage but out of my price range. Either one will tow what I own but have found these vehicles with similar mileage and price. Dont need the 2500hd but love the stance and looks of bigger truck but have owned a sierra denali 1500 with 6.2 and with some mods land loved the performance. ANy feedback or suggestions?

6.0 is tried and true motor. But it is a gas hog compared to the 6.2 because of the old design.

 

The 1500 will obviously be limited in its towing capabilities compared to the 2500 (mostly due to payload). But the 6.2 will pull anything you hook to it no probelem.

 

So it really comes down to what are your needs and wants. If you're towing a boat, the 1500 should have no problems. If you're towing a 40' travel trailer, the 2500 is where it's at.

 

As for the stance, both trucks are the same except for the slight height difference.

Everything about a 2500 is heavier - frame, trans, rear end, suspension, brakes.

 

The 1500 will ride better when unloaded.

 

The 2500 will be a more capable tow machine.

 

The 1500 will get better daily driver mileage.

in the 2500 you will get 9-13 mpg. tow more. ride rougher.

 

In the 1500 you will get 15-21 mpg. ride nicer.

After being inside the cab of the new bodystyle gm trucks I can't go back to the old ones and if the 2500 is a '14 then it is old bodystyle so I say get the half ton.

Thanks for all the input. I assumed that 14 2500hd denali was in the (new) style similar to 2014 1500. I know even them are performance cars but which can you get more performance out of with add on such as intake, exhaust, headers (or cam), and tune. Like I said towing is not a priority as either one will tow whAt I own. Best quote ever "someone asked my friend why do you have a 2500 hd diesel, what do you pull" he doesnt really pull anything huge and responded"what do you want me to pull"?

Like asking a guy with a z06 or a hayabusa. Why do you need to go that fast? Because I can if I want to

I had a 2012 2500HD with the 6.0 gas and a 2002 Z06. I concur with you and your friend. "Because I can and want to" is enough for me.

If performance and modifications is what you are after, go with the 6.2L 1500 pickup hands down.

That 6.0L HD is tuned to be a workhorse, you can see that by where maximum HP & TQ numbers are.

The 6.2L in the 1500's is more daily driver tuned and has more tuning potential and room for gains. The 6.2 Truck engines are very similar to those used in the GM performance cars and have hidden HP that can be unleashed with a tune to make it close to the car engine output.

 

You can achieve the more aggressive stance of the HD by adding a leveling kit and rear blocks to the 1500. Both my trucks sit near identical to the HD's of the same year with 2" up front, and 3" blocks in the rear. Gives the truck a nicer stance for little money, just takes a few hours of your time and should not cost more that $150.

I went from a 2011 1500 to a 2015 2500hd.

I'll never buy a half ton again. For me, the truck couldn't handle much weight in the bed without major sag.

The ride quality of the 2500 is incredible for a heavy suspended truck. Much better than my last 05 2500hd.

Take 1500 it is the best for everything except if your purpose is heavy towing.

I recently traded my 14 Silverado 1500 for a 15 Silverado 2500HD with the Allison/Duramax. We bought a camper that is almost 7500 lbs dry. Sure, once loaded up, it'd still likely be in the capabilities of the 1500, but we like going to the mountains as well as the coast. We may use the camper 6-10 times a year. The truck rides quiet and is quite smooth for a 2500HD. If we decide to upgrade the camper and get a lighter one as so many are these days, I could possibly go back to a 1500 with max tow and be fine. Like others have said, it's nice to have the capabilities if you need it. You just have to balance everything out. Good luck with your decision.

When I bought my 1500 I test drove the 2500 Dmax and 1500 back to back on the same roads. The 2500 was very stiff and then I drove the 1500 which was a much better ride. Unless your towing heavy a lot there no need for the 2500 except for the want factor. You can lift the 1500 to the same stance of the 2500 and have an improved ride depending on your lift. My boats 24' and the 1500/6.2 tows it easily but if I moved up to a 30'+, I would go to the 2500. Another thing to consider is the bed size. The 1500 Denali only comes in 5'8" and the 2500 is 6'6".

I had a 6.0 HD once and was not that impressed, struggled with my camper that was a bit under 8k, then I traded to a duramax wow was that thing a beast. Sold camper so there was no need for diesel so I grabbed a 1500 with 6.2 and absolutely love it
