No problem!! I'm just taking advantage of an opportunity to do what we all would love to see done, that's all. We've ALL been there and done that. God, if I had a nickel for every time I was the "don't buy that, it's junk, ask me how I know" guy.

You could build another racecar!! LMAO

If you don't mind sharing, what shop are you doing this at? I am in the Houston area and I had planned on doing something similar to Silverado Ice 6.2--->

Except I think I would use a different xr-1 muffler. Part # 40946. It's oval and length is 22 inches.

Is this something y'all would want to test also?

Yeah, that's what I need, lol. Sh*t, I'm ready to burn the current one to the ground most days, lol.

I don't mind, Sneaky. But I reached out to the forum community on a whim for input. I haven't asked permission to disclose the business name. I by no means am directly affiliated by way of their payroll or any other fashion outside of being a loyal customer for quite some time. I simply stopped by one day to inquire about what he might recommend for me and he said, "ya know, you're like the 150th person to ask me that about one of these new trucks. Maybe we should try some stuff out so I can answer that". Let me run it by him before I put his name out there and he ends up with a bunch of forum members saying Mike said he has magic exhaust system for $300, lol. If you would like to PM me, I can give you more info.

For whatever reason, he's only wanting to try out the Magnaflows this time around. And the ProXS because I already have it. But that doesn't mean in the future more wouldn't get tested. We had to pick a starting point and if you don't keep it simple at first, it can get expensive, so I guess Magnaflow is it for now.

Put a Pontiac power plant in it! Lol

Subscribed. ProMod, appreciate the efforts here and your knowledge. What other impact do you think the Borla flapper upstream has on the exhaust other than noise? Do you think it is any less efficient or moreso in terms of power output? What is the difference between flapper and the Borla jughandle on the front side of the system?

I've had good luck with Borla on other vehicles and just installed the GM Borla system on the 6.2L. As advertised, zero drone (no audible change whatsoever V4 vs V8). Deep rumble at start up and at city speeds with audible notes corresponding to RPM and shifter increments, both up and down. Hardly noticeable at highway cruise unless ascending under load, but aggression shows with the right foot. I thought it was perfect, so much so had it welded vs. clamped cause it aint going anywhere.

This is what I have borla xr1 40722.. I wanted to do my own version of the gm borla.. but since the valve is 3 inch I left it in the same spot since the inlet up front of a 6.2 is 3.5.. anyways here's some videos of my set up.. feel free to look at my other videos... I get complements all the time.. wow that sounds good etc. Sounds quiet at cruise... again I have the 6.2

I thought you said build a race car, lol. Who do I look like, Big Chief, lol? Supposedly that's a Pontiac 482 in the "CrowMod". It's gnarly though.

Based on the tension progression of the spring on the flapper valve, I would feel comfortable saying it couldn't possibly effect power. Efficiency? Maybe, but in the grand scheme of things, to a negligible point. Think of it like an adjustable bend in the pipe that straightens or bends more depending on flow velocity. So the "jug handle" you see on the GM Borla system acts like a resonator. They're actually called J-pipes and guys buy them off the shelf or build them into cars like the G8 or CTS-V that have absolutely HORRIBLE drone due to very rearward muffler location. It's basically redirecting a small amount of flow around a point of turbulence to help reduce vibration. They definitely work. We have some on standby. Meaning, we're going to control our variables and only change one thing at a time so we know what's having greater effect. If we install a muffler and the valve upstream and we still get noticeable drone or chopper sound, we may introduce the J-pipe. Based on the size of the pipe on the truck and the point at which Borla put the J-pipe, I'm confident we can duplicate it easily.

I was very pleased with the GM Borla system we have installed on the other truck!! it's of quality material and design and is exactly as advertised and as you've described. However, it's outside the budgetary reach of what most guys who drive their trucks every day want to, or can spend. So our goal isn't to compete with the GM Borla system, but maybe see if we can piece together some more budget friendly options for the guys who just want a little more sound and that's all they plan to change about the truck, or the guys like myself who CAN afford the GM Borla system, but just don't WANT to, lol.

Ice, nicely done. I see in one video you have the factory resonator and in the other it's gone. Am I correct? If so, why the change? Were the effects noticeable? Positive or negative?

I think the Walker 21138 is over looked and it's only $60 shipped to your door.

It's not that we've overlooked it, but we're just choosing Magnaflow as a starting point as they're very popular. Once we feel like we have a system where we can basically swap in a muffler of choice and end up with similar outcomes, we'll start exploring many more options.

I put the muffler on first cause i was waiting on the tips and the mandrel bent exhaust tubing to complete the install. I just didn't want to wait. So i put the muffler on first. I'm hoping one day I can find a 3.5 flapper valve to stick in front of the muffler.. but I doubt borla would just sell me that.. oh well well anyways I'm 100% happy with it.. oh and just doing the muffler swap alone well let's just say it was way to quiet.. sounded just like someone doing a muffler delete.

    • I was around and remember that era very well, so I'm calling b/s on that statement. If they were that bad no police department or taxi company would've bought a single one ... but they were used in both services (and fire) for DECADES. They were bulletproof and proven. Even the early 21st century ones weren't too bad! The early models were legendary.   Mine is proof, but people like atlas are blinded by agenda and refuse to believe facts right before their very eyes.   Even decades after they were built, a new generation started driving them, posting all their builds and shenanigans on Grandmarq.net and Crownvic.net. The failures would show up then, since they all were deep past 100k-150k miles by that point, and younger drivers tend to be a little aggressive, especially with vehicles than can lay a one-tire fire for as long as you hold your foot in it. They've more than proven themselves over the decades.   The only thing that'll really take them out is road salt. The bodies and sheet metal were garbage. A victim of the cheapout FoMoCo and GM have been partaking in before then, and since.   Today it's the stuff that counts - the undercarriage that rots away first!    GMs Caprice was no slouch either. Reliable as a stone ax - the opposite of what they build now.
    • Let me know how your vehicles do in 10 years. You don't know ******, kid. 😂    There's a reason that Panther platform was used as police, fire, and taxi service for DECADES ... long before you were born, apparently.
    • If your connector also has a big lever to get the connector on and off, you don't want to force the lever either way, as it becomes a bigger problem if you bust the lever or the mechanism it works.
    • It's just useful to disconnect the battery to prevent odd shorting out when unplugging/plugging stuff together.  I also  touch the two cable ends together (after disonnecting) to drain the small amount of stored battery energy in various modules.   I believe the main system where you need to be more concerned with, so you need to do the above and then wait some time, iss when you are working on the air bag system, to prevent inadvertent firing of the air bags.   The in-cab switches are just that, plain switches, it's generally not a problem to swap them in/out.  For my '12, I'll get an error message on the dash if I power up the truck w them unplugged, but that's it (power up= turn the ignition on).   The ITBC located above the spare tire is a computer that manages the trailer brake system.  That is probably more important to have the battery disconnected.  It does have to be programmed to the truck, either before or after it's installed, for it to work.  For my '12, I had a very hard time reinstalling the main connector to it (IDK if yours is the same or not), it turned out the silicon seal was jamming up, preventing it from going on all the way.  I finally got it fully installed by lubing the seal with a bit of dielectric grease, then it slid on and latched in place easily.
    • JR ! I just got the truck back from the Dealership today . The technician did a cold remote start on the truck this morning and it made the noise . It was determined that it was a starter issue and replaced it under warranty . Of course   it did not make the sound after a new starter was put in because the truck was not cold . We will we see what happens tomorrow morning when I start the truck cold  . Keep tuned !   Oh I found a video on YouTube of a cold start and it did the same thing your truck and mine do , I will see if I can find it and post it up
