Looking for LED bar, what do you recommend?

Dylan what did you use for mounting?

When removing the grille there is a hard plastic surround that creates a lip. I put the light bar centered on it with the attached mounts. It sits it a little lower than if it was mounted on the radiator supports but it still shines bright through the honey comb grille. If you see the picture I attached before right there is where I mounted it, the spot is hard to describe because I'm not sure the name of it. If you have any questions or that wasn't clear let me know

just pulled the trigger on this light and this wiring harness which allows for a wireless remote. so no wiring into the cab! great reviews on the lightbar and only bad reviews on the harness were people trying to use it on 400W 52" bars, the bar I got is only 32. cant beat these prices

 

gonna install behind the grill this weekend, wish me luck! Hope I can get it lined up good to get through the Z71 grille

I bought a 3' piece of flat aluminum from Home Depot and before i took the grille off i placed it on the bottom edge of the bar and marked it on the radiator support and then placed it on the top of the bottom grille bar to. so when i took the grille off i knew exactly where the opening of the grille was relative to the radiator support brackets.

 

When i mounted the bar to the piece of aluminum i made sure that the holes were center on the piece of aluminum.

 

i then bolted the aluminum to the radiator support using a level and measuring tape. if you make sure the middle of the aluminum piece is in the middle of your marks that you made with the grille on is centered then your bar will be mounted perfect to emit light without the grille blocking it. Also, make sure the piece of aluminum is centered side to side. I did this by measuring from each radiator mount to the end of the piece of aluminum to make sure that it was even. once center i used some clamps to hold it in place while i drilled through the aluminum and the radiator support at the same time. After i drilled the first hole i put my bolt through it so i made 100% sure that it did not move when i drilled the second.

 

Side note, mine is a 32" light bar and it BARELY fits and also paint the aluminum black before you mount it so it is not visible behind the bar.

that looks great, thanks for the info. I understand what you are saying about the measurements, but why did you use the alumimum piece to mount the lightbar instead of just mounting the lightbar to the rad supports with the supplied brackets?

The bar is wider than the radiator supports. Therefore you mount the aluminum to the supports to give you more width, then mount the bar to the aluminum.

So I was able to get the bar mounted directly to the radiator supports with the supplied hardware and got it wired up. looks great, but it sticks out too far, so when I put back on the grille it bulges a little,and doesnt match up flush with the headlights. It is hardly noticable, but I can tell and it bothers me. It also looks like it is putting stress on the grill to flex. So now I need to take it all apart and see if I can grind down the mounting brackets. wonder if anyone else had this issue?

 

I also broke some tabs getting the bumper trim piece off. I followed the steps from the videos and write ups and these tabs didnt seem to be mentioned anywhere!

As long as you install it correctly it won't block anything.

I do like the look of the behind the grill mount, but (as I tow a trailer) I'm concerned about reducing reducing airflow to the radiator. From the pics posted, it looks like this would happen. Have you noticed any change in engine oil or coolant temperature ?

None that I have seen or noticed.

I have not noticed any difference during my commute to work this morning. Once it got under temp the gauge sat just a hair under 210, which I believe is where it always was.

 

I was able to ground down the mounts so the lightbar still touches the grill in a few spots, but the grille is no longer bulging. wonder if anyone else had that issue?

Rough Country is the kit I got. I also mounted my front and rear light bar switch in the hole in the dash that was useless to me. No change in temp that I noticed here in south Florida.
