HD Radio

I recently upgraded to a 2015 GMC Sierra Denali. Not by my choice. Someone decided that they wanted to use my 2014 All Terrain as a demolition derby car and totaled it. I am trying to figure out with if I can get the HD option to work in the new truck. The question that I have is in the picture shown here what are the plugs in the radio module that are not being used. I know that GM disabled the HD option sometime in 2015 but just trying to figure out if it will work the the existing hardware that I have and get a software update to get it working.

From what I can tell via the schematics, HD runs off the XM roof antenna. Its either a hardware or software difference with the radio itself. If GM does not support adding it (from what I can tell, they don't), then they won't have a software update to make it work.

I have already asked the infotainment engineer about this exact question. Sadly no, you are not able to add HD to the 2015 trucks. The hardware and software is different from 2014 to 2015 to 2016 and none of it is backwards compatible. The 2015 trucks don't even have any of the functions or options for the HD module to even be use on them.

I actually just did a Chat with a GM Infotainment Engineer last evening. What TJay74 said is correct. Unfortunately you can't add HD Radio to a late-build 2015. Stupid GM -- that's one of the reasons I bought the truck!!

MY 2016 has the HD radio... I noticed today when I was listening to the Radio... the symbol was there and then changed color as it locked on. Just like my 2014 used to do. Did GM only remove the HD for the 2015?

Yes, they thought the reception issue was a HD issue to they removed it only to find out it was a total FM issue in regards to how the signal is processed and it not only affected HD but analog as well.

If this is REALLY a big deal for everyone I can look into software retrofit; you guys would be on your own antenna/wiring wise though. Is this something you guys REALLY REALLY want?
