Engine coat?

Yep, that's exactly what my 15 is like. The areas where it's thick enough to drip make me cringe, but I'm just being OCD. Glad to know it's nothing harmful.

I've kept the engines clean/washed since I've been old enough to have a car/truck. The only problem I EVER had was a 1980 Coupe Deville. Every time I washed the engine, the throttle positioning sensor would go hay wire. The dealer kept replacing it under warranty and finally told me to stop washing my motor and I told him to figure out how to stop the problem because my engine compartments has all been washed in the past and I had never had a problem. Since the decided that I wasn't going to stop washing the engine, they finally told me to put a plastic sandwich bag over the sensor before washing. Never had a the problem again. However, that was back in the days when I traded vehicles every year so I didn't have to put up with it too long.

My one month old Silverado doesn't have any thing like that on the engine. It's probably something the dealer sprayed on there to make it pretty. I agree with the previous poster, using a pressure washer on an engine (any engine) is just asking for trouble and is not necessary. Use some Simple Green, elbow grease and a garden hose.

I agree THD.

Pressure washing an engine bay is a last ditch lazy effort to restore a neglected underhood area.

Like said above, if water was made to go in the engine bay, I guess they could save money by deleting the hood.

I wouldnt use a pressure washer. But after playing in the mud i used my garden hose with out any problems.

If they weren't designed to handle moisture they would come sealed from the bottom and fender wells too... and wouldn't get covered in mud or road grime either. The rest is just a big lol.

Quit telling people that water will damage them then lol. It doesn't, period..... a garden hose and simple green is about the same effect. Unless you like taking the gun of the car wash and holding it 2" away from all your electrical connectors.... but you can't fix stupid.
