2016 GMC HEADLIGHTS IN A 2015

All modules are VIN tied to your VIN, one of the way GM got rid of pulling a VIN from another truck with features you wanted and having the dealer flash the module from the other VIN. The system will only program the modules in your truck with the latest calibration GM has on file for your VIN for those modules, same if you replace a module.

 

I will be surprised if this works, you all say the BCM isn't involved but is somewhat is in the fact that it controls the voltage output to the wiring to the lights. If the new LED lights need a specific voltage higher than 12v how do you plan on correcting that? Remember that was one of the changes to the 2014 and early 15 trucks was to change the bulbs out and bump the voltage in the BCM to 14v for the new lights.

Well I think part of the reason they went to LED and HID is because of that bump. They had to bump up a halogen bulb to 14v to increase it's output. HID's and LED drivers take 12V and do their own thing to power their respective bulbs. HID's have ballasts that turn the 12v into a heck of a lot more. LED's filter and regulate the voltage.

 

Honestly I think it'll work just fine because it's obvious GM put the new head lights in as part of the refresh and to address the poor lighting concerns of the 14-15 trucks. Even more evidence it'll all work just fine is they switched to HID bulbs in the same housings for the 2016 HD's.

 

This is all just talk though. Just like anything we will eventually get our answers and it'll work or it won't. My money is on it'll work just fine.

Haha, I share this same thought. I know it is impossible but if we could get enough people together to call, email, share on Facebook and Twitter, etc, we could probably get a low cost update kit or something. Squeaky wheel gets the grease......

They 2016 2500 headlight is the exact same as 2015. The difference from a visual inspection is the HID projector, the HID bulb, ballast, and wiring to the HID. The rest of the wiring looks the same.

Just gotta get down to my GMC dealer and pop the hood on a new 2500 SLE and SLT and take a look around at those headlights...and window stickers.

Everything being done electronically by the BCM can be replicated mechanically, if you know what you're trying to replicate. After all, the BCM is just a simple computer, and a computer is just a huge collection of on\off switches.

But that likely won't be needed. Most everything operates in the range between 12v and 13.8v. I was able to get the 14/15 headlights to function perfectly on my test bench with 13.8v.

• For those that are still under warranty and have already tried the #PIT5374 Headlight Performance (BCM Calibration and Bulbs), there may be other alternatives.
• A guy from Cheboygan, MI claims to have the dealership change out this 2015 headlights for 2016's, see:

ANYONE TRIED OR ATTEMPT PUTTING IN THE 2016 HEADLIGHTS IN A 2014 OR 2015?

i saw a post on carcomplaints.com...apparently this guy had it done by the dealer.....see quoted post..."1. I contacted GM customer service for help. 2. Dealer was contacted by CS and was told to change the headlight bulbs which resulted in minimal improvement. 3 Dealer was contacted by CS and was asked to raise the headlight aim which resulted in no improvement. 4. I told CS that I wanted the the 2016 headlights installed in my truck. This resulted in many emails and phone calls without any positive action. 5. I searched out the email address for Mary Barra. I a short email I asked her to ask her people what was being done to correct the God Awful 2014/2015 headlight problem. I told her that I had exhausted all of the resources available to me without success. 6. The next morning I received a call fro CS asking me if I had a problem. I thanked them for asking. Lol It was at that point they said that they would contact my dealer to ask them to proceed in installing the 2016 headlights in my truck. &. The headlights are in and the truck is everything that it was suppose to be. I am happy. The purpose of this posting is to hopefully help all of the other owners of the 2014/2015 Sierra's.

Here is the connector for the 2016 headlights if you want to DIY has to be repin and nc/no relay for drl and an error canceller for the led hid funtion and some resistors for the signal error

Those with 14/15 Sierras might want to check out this website for retrofitting 2014-2015 headlamp assemblies with OEM 14/15 SLT HID assemblies using a custom wiring harness with OEM connectors to replace the stock headlamps. Expensive, but appears to be on 1/2 price sale and cheaper than dealer parts
