2015 dealership gear swap

I have a 2015 4x4cc 5.3 3.08 gear ratio. I have done plenty of searching on here and can't find an exact answer. Would it be a direct swap to change to 3.73? Is this something the dealer could/would do? Also, if the dealer did it, would it void my warrant at all? I regret buying a truck with 3.08, but you live and learn. Thanks in advance

I believe the max tow (which is the only package available for a 5.3 to upgrade the rear end) includes the bigger 9.76" rear end. Since you have the 9.5" rear end you'll have to settle for either a 3.42 or do a carrier swap as well as a new yoke, different seal for the yoke and some other stuff. I did a write up on it previously and I'll look for the thread when I get home from work. I'm even gonna pin it at the top cause everyone says they can't find anything on the matter and I get a notification at least 3 times a week regarding regearing these k2 trucks

So if the dealer did the 3.42 swap, do you think they keep warranty? I'm assuming if I had a shop other than the dealer do anything shorter than the 3.42 that it would void the warranty.

Mine has 3.42 and no max tow. Mine just has the standard towing prep package.

Yeah same as mine, but 3.42 is the steepest gear you can get in the 9.5" rear end from the factory

If it is the GM factory parts then yes I would say it will still retain the factory warranty

And probably screw it up to boot.... dealer monkeys don't build engines, do gear swaps or any of the like in any frequency. You would be much better off taking the truck somewhere they will do it correctly. If warranty is your biggest concern just live with the 3.08 gears.

AAM offers a 4.10 set that fits the new 9.5" axle. It would require a carrier change from the 3.08 version, however.

Would love to see how much a dealer would charge to do a 3.42 swap! $$$$

I also have a truck with the 3.08s and they suck. I wanted to upgrade to to 3.42s or 3.73. I asked the dealer to give me a quote and they did. $4200 for for the 3.42s and they didn't know how much it would be for the 3.73s. If i upgrade I will not use the dealer because they said it will void the warranty.

Good Luck!

More than likely a local mechanic or off-road shop will give you a far better price over the dealer. Plus the dealer will only install the 3.42's since that is the largest gear offered from the factory. Personally I would get 3.73's if you plan to leave it stock. If you plan to get a lift and larger tires than at least 4.10.

Once you switch to 3.42 or 3.73 you will have to update the tune on the truck, which will void your warranty if you still have one.

Just an FYI.

That is why I was considering having the dealer do the swap. I figured If they changed the gears and the tune, they would still cover it all under warranty

They may not be able to. Several years ago GM dealers could reflash for tires or if you added a factory option down the road. GM no longer allows this. It is very possible the dealer swap would have to utilize a 3rd party tune.
