Hate to say this, but from me working in management for many years the moment you threaten litigation either verbally or in writing it forced GM to push you off and call your bluff. You have to be careful in saying the "lawsuit" word, in this day and age it will cause almost any company to stop everything and wait for the litigation paperwork to show up.

The quoted material came from the service manager at my local dealership. It was not from GM HQ. Plus, they are speculating. They never interviewed me. Had they done so, they would clearly have seen the hitch and towing or even the suspension modification could not be the causality.

Then I would get this and the "what if it doesn't work" in writing from the service manager. When I had my issue I always knew what the next step was if the current fix didn't work. The dealerships have a hierarchy of remedies to follow. If they follow the rules, they get paid! You are obviously free to go the route you are choosing but I'm simply sharing my perspective. I don't have the history with this issue that you do but perhaps some objectivity may be a good thing!

You make a very good point. Hence, why I waited 2 years and 5 interactions with the office of the CEO before I even hinted at the word. For I never really expected to have to resort to legal remedy.

I am not sure why GM would behave like this. I have been courteous and manageable throughout the entire process. Maybe they think I will not follow thru. Who knows? What I do know is they have refused to remedy a defect which I can prove is their responsibility. It's really unfortunate that I must now burden the courts of NJ with this easily resolvable matter.

I will create a new thread to chronicle my lawsuit active with GM. in this forum.

Objectivity is always welcome. I am not out for blood, just to be made whole. The service manager has already advised GM nor the dealership will do anything if the dents reoccur post compliance with the "speculative" instructions from GM engineers.

The issue remains, which will be the focus of my suit, that the engineers have incorrectly speculated the causality of this defect. It is due to improper or ineffective weld points at the bed rail. The dents increase with seasonal and or drastic changes in outside temperature and humidity and reoccur post paint less dent repair..

My 2014 has them and I'm running a rollbak bed cover, see my photos, I couldn't figure this out and now I'm reading this and I'm SMH

Would you mind sharing a little more detail about your story? Every occurrence of this defect I can refer to will help me in my lawsuit against GM. Once I am successful with the lawsuit it will open up the door for anyone else who has the same defect to be assured they will get proper remedy.

Did anything ever come of this?

I had a single spontaneous ripple appear in the metal of my driver side rear quarter panel, above the wheel well, just below the bed rail.  It's a 2018 Silverado LT Z71 Double Cab Standard Box.  I bought the truck new in November, it was about 8 months old with around 6,000 kms (less than 4,000 miles) when the mystery dent appeared literally overnight.

I walked out of the house one morning on my way to work and noticed the dent as soon as I looked at my truck sitting in the driveway.  My initial thought was that someone had bumped it or hit it with something throughout the night, but on further inspection I wasn't convinced that there was actually any impact.  It's very vertical and symmetrical, runs almost right up to the bed rail (much too high to have been dinged by a door or shopping cart, etc.) and there is absolutely no damage to the paint whatsoever... even the wax seems to be unmarred.

I was puzzled by the mystery dent until stumbling upon this forum, at which point I reached out to my dealer.  Not surprisingly, they claim to have never heard tell of such an issue.  After walking around the lot with my salesman and the service manager to examine many other trucks, all of which were frustratingly dent-free, they agreed to reach out to their DSM and see what information they could find on the matter.

I don't expect much, but I decided I'll hold off on PDR until I see what they may or may not be able to dig up.  A careless neighborhood child with a hockey puck and poor night vision would have been a much easier pill to swallow than the possibility of a not-too-common-yet-seemingly-ongoing issue or defect that GM is refusing to acknowledge or rectify.

For what it's worth, I'm in Newfoundland, Canada, and the dent appeared during the first week of July, just as the weather turned hot.
