My own 8 speed problems & resolution

Corvette and Camaro guys with the 8L90 have reported the shudder being fixed after the dealer replaced the converter and performed a couple trans+trans cooler flushes, with the filter being changed along with it. The friction material in the TC clutch appears to get into the system and cause the shudder. It's a very common issue with F-150 transmissions the last few years too.
My brother has a 17 camaro ss and his 8 speed shifts great. He's hasn't had any issues with shudder or the random hard shifts. We also didn't have to shim his peddle assembly either. Why can't they take the trans tune from the camaro/corvette 8 speed and put it in our trucks?

Fuel economy.

Truck makers are under serious pressure to eek out every fraction of fuel economy they can. That means tuning transmissions to shift into taller gears than is ideal and locking up the torque converter as much as possible. You could have it tuned by custom shop. Blackbear Performance tuned mine and the difference was amazing. I would consult with them before going ahead with it so see if they can tune the TCC to reduce shudder.

Blackbear tuned my last truck and it was great. The only problem is that my 17 has the 6.2 and Blackbear can't tune the 17s with 6.2s. The TCM is locked. I have to send my TCM to have it unlocked by hp tuners 1st but even then I'd have to have someone else tune it.

17 and up 8sp tcm's can be tuned in the vehicle now.  However I don't know of a hand held than can do it yet.  I know Vector Motorsports in Michigan can tune them in the vehicle.

yes... its already been in once, when i got it... "cant replicate" so they did nothing. .now it has 30k,.. and back in now.. waiting for a call back... .

but what pisses me off.. is a guy can get in it for 10 mins, and say i cant not replicate, what i feel every day for the past 2 yrs~... . kills me.... .. he doesn't drive the truck like i do.. you know...

Have them ride with you. The service manager rode with me and I got it to duplicate it. All he said was that they could do a trans relearn to see if it helps. He also said to turn off grade braking and put it in m4 when driving around town. Only leave it in normal Drive when I'm on the freeway unless of course there's traffic. I said that's ridiculous. I shouldn't have to get in my truck my truck and adjust what gear the truck goes in every time depending on driving conditions.

Service  managers are former mechanics that never get any upgrading. the last time some of these guys were ever under a hood the cars had carburators. they know these transmissions are junk. i spoke with my salesman that sold me the truck and expressed my disappointment with the lack of a fix for this issue . I said ill be trading this junk in once the 2019 Rams are out. Big mistake on my part trading in my 2014 ram. it also had a 8 speed trans and not even a bump in shift patterns. Belive it or not the only reason i traded it in cus of the knob shifter as apposed to the coloum shift. He told me ohh no why dont you trade it in to us the new 2019 have a 10 speed. LOL LOL are they f**ing Crazy they cant even get the 8 speed right emagine this 10 speed. LOL

Any bets on how long it will take before he's on the Ram forum complaining?

ya ill bet you buddy. because ive owned one. How many new vehicles have you owned. Probably your only one. I think i may have a bit of say in what i think about the GM brand. Ive been in the  machanical business for 30 years. and belive me i wouldnt think twice about just installing a tune to this junk. i could care less about the warenty. Bet if your truck was out of warenty and you took it to my shop for engine work or transmission work and once you got it back it ran like shit. And we told you it was normal.Guess what you would be on the complaining forums about  how could they say its normal and fixed. Ya this is a Gm site ,But no were does it say you cant compare to another brand. Al l new cars and trucks are built with chinese parts. Is one better than the other? NO but when i Company tries to tell a consumer that this issue is normal operation. There blowing smoke up people a***s. And some poor consumers do know any better. Thats how they get away with crap. Will i complain on Ram Forums? F***king right i will when they Take 65 Grand of my Money and sell me a truck that shifts like a farmers tractor.

i Hear you Brother. GM is dissapointing. Had my truck in today for the rear camera brightness and asked my service advisor about the transmission issue. his response was. There have been no complaints about the issue. LOL LOL. they have become great actors and can lie right to your face.

Several, plus I used to test prototypes. Nobody is perfect, and Chrysler and Fiat both had terrible reputations for QC before the merger so I'm not buying any fairy tales.

Dodge::P The truck so shoddy they had to change the name.

LOL really and i suppose this gm is better. Crap transmission ac condensor that breaks  away at the welds. shaky at hyway speeds. paint issues. water comming in from rear overhead stop light. back up camera that you need sun glasses to back up at night. ( get the update and its like looking at super 8 film from the days. must be a 2 meg pixel camera). FYI is you read my previous post i never said any other brand was that the other. IMOA there all crap. its what the dealer will do to try and fix the issues. which truly Chrysler alway did there best to repair the issue not tell the customers its normal. if the service advisors were actual mechanics they would know that there is a problem. but at the end of the day they need to upsale there 21 point checks that involve topping up your windsheild washer fluid and doing a walk around. and bending over customers to meet there quota . its all about the dollar. bud.

    • I have thought an EV might have some practical value in extending the life of the ICE members of ones fleet. Now....I'm convinced of it. I've been letting my better half access Raven (Mitsubishi Mirage) for her needs while Dizzy has been in the shop. Being the fuel freak I am and given the fact Raven is capable of over 60 mpg in clean air on a warm day I was taken back by the wife's ability to take a car that had used a half a tank of gas that to that point had returned a value of 57 mpg and return in with a decimating 51 mpg for that same tank in that same day in a 15 mile round trip of short hop errands and a stop in the drive through at Micky D's.  😱   Trust me on this. It would take the remainder of that tank driven on the highway to return that tank to just 54 mpg. This is not a Mitsubishi issue. This is an ICE issue that is magnified in vehicles capable of such high fuel economy values. On a percentage basis your 1500 does the same thing. Short hopping an ICE consumes a good deal more fuel and in doing so provides zero additional useable outputs. That entire volume of fuel is wasted in diluting the cylinder walls oil films, creating crankcase moisture and acid content and the resultant wear.    Enter the SLATE. All of that is avoided and the ICE's advantage in range and made useful at reduced wear for your ICE!   Kind'a cool.
    • Back in the day people would buy cars based on performance. The charger posted does 0-60 in 3.3 seconds. And it’s fully loaded.  It has a decent warranty and will fit most anyone’s needs. Remember the original Hemi? 90 day warranty. 25K mini truck or that car? I’d go with the car. It wouldn’t fit my perimeter. If I could just talk my wife out of her Genesis. It would be perfect for her.
    • Let's pivot this back. Someone said they wanted pictures.   Even better, there's already video. Pre-prod prototypes are already on the road and they're letting the press drive them.   JerryRigEverything did a good review. I really enjoy his content and EV adventures, so I was thrilled when he had the chance to review a Slate:
    • The Charger EV was stillborn. Wrong car at the wrong price for Dodge's intended audience. Now at a good price with fire-sale discounts, and still not selling, it's still very much the wrong car. Again, Dodge's intended audience. I believe a lot of Stellantis' EV blunders were all under Tavares' regime at Stellantis...the board convinced him to move on. Neat car, just wasn't received on the level that would sustain mass production.   Dodge is headed in a better direction for its core business. I didn't think there was anything left to get excited about re: the Durango after its 15 year run, but they're just now releasing a 392 version that should price out in the low 40's. Nicely done. I'm not sure I would touch anything Stellantis makes with a 10' pole these days, but the Durango is still mostly parts designed like 3 parent companies ago so maybe it's still OK?
