Help me pick tires for my Denali

Recommended Posts

Posted

I am doing a 2.5" Level kit to my 4x4 Denali, and I am looking for the best tire. I am looking for the quietest, yet aggressive looking tire. I know those two don't normally go together. I think mud tires are the best looking, but I drive nearly 60 miles a day and do not want to regret buying obnoxious tires.

Any help will be appreciated!

Michelin LTX A/T 2

1.Best tire brand, bar none

2. Quite

3 the most aggressive tire they make, but from mud/aggressive looking tires

Michelin's, comes from years and years of working with them. Most folks replace them every 4-6 years, when you see every brand on every different kind of vehicle, almost every day you learn a few things, spend money now save later. <-(Tires can actually save you money, fuel and headache)

Michelins have the quietest most comfortable ride, given you have the correct load rating. The Dodge/Ram trucks guys are really good about pulling heavy duty load rated tires on their trucks and complain about stiffness. :nonod:

The newer Michelin defender LTX M/S 2's are going on my truck day 1.

Really? Might be easier finding a real life unicorn

About your two options are BFG KO2's and Goodyear DuraTracs. The Michellins I have heard wear like iron blocks and are really 'aggressive' for traction but do not look like. I am going to be going with KO2's personally.

Thanks for the advice so far

I have the bfg ko2's on mine. Love the tire

This is the tire all of my truck friends have recommended so far. I like it a lot, but it seems to have a small footprint if that makes sense. This tire is still in the top 5 of my list of choices.

I love Michelins. I have 275/55/20 Michelin LTX M/S2's on my truck right now. I know they are the best and most likely the quietest overall tire, but that is not the look I am going for. I am looking for a much more aggressive looking tire.

I didnt mean I'm looking for an aggressive tire that is quiet. I should have worded it "I'm looking for an aggressive tire that makes less noise than other aggressive tires."

I have not considered the DuraTracs yet. That is a good looking tire; pretty much the look I'm going for. I'll have to add that tire to my list of considerations.

My experience is almost all new AT tires will be relatively quiet when new. After 10,000-20,000 miles is when they reveal their noise qualities. Then they get worse as time goes on from there.

The cross-over AT-mud tires like my Cooper STMaxx tires start out a bit noisy, but not bad at all. Now, with 35,000 miles on them, they howl like a half satisfied female coyote in heat.

My opinion: big tread voids = big noise, eventually. YMMV

Trust me, just buy the KO2s. Best AT tire and look great. Very Quiet riding.

BF Goodrich tires are over priced in my opinion. They're a good tire I just don't see why they cost so much compared to other good tires.

I might just have to take that advice

They are expensive at the big brand stores like Discount Tire. Look at Tire Rack, ebay or Amazon and they seems to be priced in line with others.

That's good info for me because I've always liked their tires I just couldn't fork over that much more for them when I could get Coopers for less, and I've never had an issue with them. Next time I'm buying I'll look around more.

For 60 miles on a daily basis and no real off road needs but tough look, go with Rugged Terrain.

If you have a "but" about any of the tires suggested in this thread, please stop posting.

I recently had Nitto Terra Grappler g2 275/60r20 installed on my '14 Denali. I too had concerns that the Denali ride and interior sound would suffer with an aggressive tire. I have put about 60 miles since installation. The Nittos are not as quiet as the OEM Goodyears but are much quieter than i would have thought they would be. The ride is similar to the Goodyears at this point in time. I'm not sure if either of these attributes will change as the Nittos age. The Nitto's look much better on the Denali rims than the Goodyears. As others have said, it is difficult to have an aggressive tread and quiet in a AT tire. Best of luck with your decision.

I have always liked the bf Goodrich all terrain t/a ko2. I plan on picking a set up for my denali when. I wear the first set out.
