Hey guys,

dealing with the same issues. Replaced the thermostat and temp sensor, reset computer and still having the same issue. My truck is a 2018 Chevy Silverado 1500 5.3. I’ve also replaced the radiator before this. My brother is a mechanic, he’s going to put the computer on it this afternoon and see if we can find anything as to the reasoning behind this. I’ll keep y’all updated and any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Were you able to come up with anything on this Ben?

Having the same problem. '14 silverado 5.3 . Changed sensor and thermostat.  Lost some fluid while changing . Didn't think it was much. Drove around to see if anything changed. Fans still on high, gauge flat lined. Checked fluid and realized res was pretty much empty. Filled and repeated the drive. No change. Upper rad hose was cold and felt empty. Did not check with scanner or pull cables off battery. So.....would the low coolant cause this issue to continue? Could there be a bubble stuck at the thermostat? Any help would be great

Try removing the Neg Battery cable for a few minutes to reset the system.  This should kill the fans and the temp gauge should read normal afterwards.

Has anyone tried changing the relay and/or fuse for the fan? I ask because I'm having the same problems and changed out both the thermostat and sensor. Fan kept running after thermostat, but stopped working at all before I got chance to replace sensor. I figured the relay and/or fuse blew from fan constantly running, but when I checked the fuse box...neither was even there! Confused as to how they could run without them. Hoping my fan didn't go out with no relay, because it was obviously running without one.

Hello, running into this issue now at about 150k miles. Long road trip to the Guadalupe mountains, about one entire fuel tank worth of distance cruising down the highway.

Turned truck off that night, no problems, camped near the truck, no noises or leaks that I could tell

Headed to the national park visitor center the next morning and when I turned it off the radiator fan kept running. Looked under the hood and didn’t really see anything. Radiator overflow tank had fluid. Suspecting the sensor or the thermostat. The fan turns off eventually. Later that day after hiking the Guadalupe peak I noticed the temp stays at 160 degrees pegged low. I stop at a rest stop not too far away and the same issue, fan turns on, eventually turns off.

I got back on the road running the heater full blast, watching oil pressure like a hawk, ambient temperatures were 75F or so high with 50F lows, so not anything extreme. Get to a hotel as I wanted a shower pretty bad at that point. The fans stop again, impossible for them to stop that fast if it were really over heating

Next morning after the hotel stay, everything works, temps normal and no radiator fan issue

I was ready to replace the thermostat and sensor, but if it works now I won’t bother. I assume the long drive stressed a relay or sensor and normal shorter drives fixed it

I had a similar thing happen this morning. The fans went to high speed, and the temp gauge went to zero.

I've also had an issue with the wipers moving to the intermittent position by themselves.

And a probably unrelated event: My hood popped open to the safety catch on the freeway! It was fully closed when I started the trip. Yikes!

Anyway, I inspected the temp sensor but decided a power reset was in order.

Problem(s) have ceased.

Methinks that some of the PCM code musta been written by Microsoft!

Now to figure out the hood issue.

I just replaced the coolant temp sensor on my 2014 Silverado and the engine fan is still running wide open and the temp gauge is still not working. My mechanic will likely have to figure this one out.

Hardwire a ground to your ext sensor ground wire. It fixed my issue exactly like yours.tan wire may pass visual inspection but may still be bad or going bad
