Gibson Exhaust still leaking!!!!????

I bought a new clamp already and it still

Leaks bad. I'm going to have to try to use some sealer. Mine leaks pretty bad I hope it works. When you start it the truck sounds almost embarrassing. Keep in mind, this is after I've taken it to multiple exhaust shops and mechanics. I'm pretty handy with stuff like this so I thought maybe I'm just not good at it. Well then These guys arent either ha. This is my luck.

Which gibson exhaust do you have? Where do you live? I have an exhaust guy I use when I need piping bent and whatnot and he said if you absolutely can't get it to seal he would put like a 2 bolt flange on. If you're fairly local I could maybe send you his way.

I have the stainless single side exit just like the stock exhaust. I live in southern Maine. I took it to Lous exhaust which is all over New England and the owner said "I have no answer for you, take it off and toss it". Haha. I'm like wow this ain't good.

My guy would fix it. He's an independent guy that's been around a long time. I'm in eastern, PA. Probably wouldn't justify the drive lmao

How strange. I've taken my muffler clamp off probably a dozen times, welded on and cut off about 4 different exhausts before I found the right setup. Still no leakies around that clamp. Is it a free flowing exhaust? Must have quite a bit of back pressure to push out enough air right there to make that much noise. Best of luck!

its just a stainless Gibson. I wish I had answers. I've bought a new clamp and everything. All I can think is the thing and defective or something and won't seat correctly. I called a place today and they said they would cut my stock flex pipe section off and weld it to the Gibson pipe. I guess this is my only option at this point. Gibson has horrible service. When I talk to them about this they blame everyone but the exhaust itself. They say the installer doesn't know what he's doing. Im taking this to people who know what they are doing. I would never take it to like VIP where some 17 year old works on my truck. I only got the best. Gibson sucks.

Sounds like I won't be giving Gibson any of my money... Haha. But now that you mention it, I do remember having to adjust to get the pipe to seat correctly over the other one. That flex pipe has to be relaxed when it fits to the y-pipe coupling, if you have to stretch it over before you start to tighten the clamp, it won't seal right. It also has to be a dead on angle in every direction; if it's crooked it will not seal properly. Wish I could take a look at it for you man, but sometimes you just have to get under there and keep messing with it til it's done correctly. It only take a wrench to adjust the clamp on that pipe, 13mm if I remember correctly.

The Gibson pipe is the reason it's leaking. They attempted to make it like the stock flex pipe and failed miserably. I'm taking it Wednesday and having my stock flex pipe portion welded onto the Gibson pipe so it will seat up properly. See the pic. It's not even close to the stock one. One side is flared further then the other lol. It's Sad really.

I used Permetex exhaust tape on mine. For anybody that buysa Gibson catback, throw the u-bolt exhaust clamps away. They're junk. I used two Dynomax 33273 band clamps to attachthe muffler. Wrap the Permetex sealnt tape on the joint over the joints, then slide the band clamps over the tape andd clamp them down. No leaks here. The joint at the flex pipe is a notoriou source of leaks for any exhaust that re-uses it. You gotta have everything aligned correctly before you bolt it back down. RTV can help.

put a mbrp kit on my truck this weekend. well see if the flare fitting by the cat leaks over time. it sat in there nice and i used a liberal amount of high heat gasket maker. No problems so far! cranked the clamps down good at the muffler. wish it had a piece of flex pipe though

I'm ordering these clamps now. The Gibson clamps are junk. I went and bought some different ones but they are junk too. Hoping these will work better.

I had to take mine to an exhaust shop and have them cut my flex pipe off my stock exhaust and weld it onto my Gibson to get it to stop leaking.
