Rough idle when coming to stop

Just for comparison issues. Because I was thinking about having them look into the engine shims. Does it seem what I was explaining above? A periodic shudder? What size engine? Do you know the build date and location? Have you tried sitting in park and bringing it to 1000 RPM and see if it has the intermittent shudder? Also what your weather like and have you noticed differences with different weather? Mine seemed to almost disappear with 100 degree temps outside, now its chilled back down its more noticeable. (Don't know if this was a fluke) My build date is November 2015 in Mexico, 6.2l CC Denali, Shortbox.

Funny you mention the weather....the other day it was 102 and the rpm's idling in drive were about 600...no shudder. Normally they are below 500.

When I'm in drive and at a red light idling if I brake and push the gas a little the shudder goes away. It's very odd though. It will do it at one red light, and the 10 minutes later when I'm at another, it's smooth as glass.

 

The shims just mask the problem. They kind of just did that when I brought the truck in to explain what was going on. I wish they told me what they were up to though...I would have told them to keep the damn thing and put me in something else. I had just put 300 miles on it going back and forth to work. I may still do this.....800 miles on it now and it drives like a 10 year old truck. Have a 2000 f150 with 300,000 miles that rides better than this brand new truck I just paid an arm and leg for......

Mine does it in park, nuetral and drive. Its more noticable the longer you sit. Same with bringing to 1000rpms. Just give it a 10 seconds or so and i start feeling the shutter again. I idle at about 550 but seems to be lowering toward 500, dont know why its changing (sure something with the dozens of sensors). I might idle higher because its a 6.2l. I went in at lunch and had the tech sit in it. He agreed and looked perplexed. He thought it idled to rough even without noticing the shudder then he felt the shudder and said i should definitely bring it in. Made another appointment to drop it off. Maybe MAF sensor? Since air temp seems to change it. To me it was still there but barely noticable. I may have been trying to look for it though. The bucking when slowly releasing the brake was gone though.

That's because it's not the mounts creating it, only resonating enough to allow it to pass it into the cab/frame.

Some new trucks that are doing it is probably coming from the torque converter, hence why it won't vibrate unless the truck is put in drive. If it does it in park then its a diffrent issue. Like I said, the mounts are not the source of the problem, they just happen to be resonating to the vibration source.

I hooked up an OBD sensor and used a phone app to look at the sensors. When idling my fuel pressure jumps. On average 45psi then dips to 30 and sometimes up to 50, even down to 22 a couple times. The fuel rail pressure also fluctuates but not as drastically. Should these numbers be more constant?

Any updates? My 16 5.3 has done it since about 400 miles. One thing I have also noticed.

 

Has ANYONE heard what sounds like detonation? Mine has done it 3 times, the very first time I punched it from a dead stop. Moderate accelerating while getting on the interstate (once). And when I had to pull forward unexpectedly the other day from avoiding a Camaro trying to smash into me. It even gets sluggish right when it does it.

I have a 2015 RC LT with the rough idle issue in gear at stop with brake on and yes I have had the shims put into my motor mounts at the dealership. The truck has 3000 kms and did it from new. It has helped. I do get it now and then which I think if I bump the idle a bit it should go completely away. I had to tell my dealer to do the shims because they did not know about it. They did research it and found the service bulletin.

Condition can't be normal.....mine is rock steady at idle just a hair below 500 on the tach, even with the A/C on. Could be a fuel mixture problem if the leak is downstream of the MAF sensor.

 

Had this problem once where it would shake at idle with the brake depressed and smooth out a little as soon as you let off the brake or fed a little gas and it turned out to be an air bleed caused by a bad check valve on the vacuum line to the brake booster.

I have a 2016 SIERRA Texas Edition with the 5.3l.

I had the same problem. First they replaced the air flow sensor, which it didn't showed on their Scanner. They had to drive the truck with the scanner attached to it. It took them 5 days to figure this out.

3 days after getting the truck back my service engine light came on. I called my service advisor and told him about the engine light, he said can you bring the truck to the dealer I told him no this should have been fixed the first time. He send one of their employees with a loaner and drive my truck to the dealer and after several attempts the technician found out that the ECM and one sensor were bad.

They replaced both items and it seems to be working.

I shouldn't have to take a brand new truck to the dealer for repairs at such low milage.

This is my 3rd GMC SIERRA that I bought from this dealership.

My 2010 was the best.

I know it's not the dealership but a manufacturer problem.

I guess I should of checked the country of manufacturer.

Again assembled in Mexico.

Maybe you're correct and it is assembly plant related. ....my 5.3l DI Silverado was assembled in Roanoke, IN and after 2K still smooth as silk without a single stumble, shake or vibration......according to the sticker, assembled with a majority of parts of US or Canadian origin.

 

Learned my lesson with the Mexico manufactured "3" VIN Avalanches. Now, I'll only buy GM's with a leading "1" or "2" in the VIN and none of my four Chevys have required a visit for warranty repairs so far during the first year of ownership

It is obvious that the PLANT or Origin has nothing to do with your problems? The exact parts mentioned by yourself are either sourced or procured from USA or Mexico and ASSEMBLED at BOTH TRUCK ASSEMBLY PLANTS! You have bad sourced components made for GM no by GM. Big deal we all get them sometimes replace them and you will probably not have ASSEMBLY RELTAED issues ever with truck?

 

I would have to say that the care and attention put into my truck ASSEMBLED IN MEXICO far exceeds any vehicle I have ever bought out of Michigan or neighboring states. MY hats off to the Sialo PLANT they have exceeding my expectations and the employees I would assume actually care about quality because it shows. I have also seen other posts on this fourm praising the quality from that ASSEMBLY PLATNT.

Just picked up my 2016 Silverado cc z71 with 5.3l and have noticed the engine has a rough idle when coming to a stop. Or when I'm at idle and am using the brakes. Anyone else have this issue. My truck has 104 miles.

Yes, I encountered this on a test drive of a 2016 5.3L last month. It had 10 miles on the ODO. My wife kept asking me if there was something wrong with it. Apparently there was.

Exactly. I encountered this when driving a new 2016 5.3L Crew Cab last month. It was fine idling in the parking lot, but when it was in Drive out on the road it was going nuts when I came to a full stop at red lights. Only when it was in Drive. Not Park.

 

It got so bad on a couple occasions that it felt like someone was in the bed running in place shaking the truck. Very annoying.
