He's not talking about copying by adding a cap. He's talking about how you guys sell a whole HID style harness with relays and all. Then after an alternative is found here you have a similar setup available..

You got a call because you seem knowledgeable and so far no one else has been able to solve this mysterious issue with DRL flicker on 6.2L, Either way he tried your suggestion of a 25v cap on the DRL and it didnt work so we are back to square one.

Your right it did not work, but i think he told me he was putting on the DRL side, I will try to find a 6.2 to test it on that truck, we had the harness long before, on 20 Jan but there where for and still only recommended for the HD trucks, ( all we have is an HD in our fleet ) i told Payton34 that on the phone, said they may work on 1500 but have not been tested, from the wiring schematics things look like they work, but as you see they dont always do, and until some one tests it we dont say it will work.

Now for the people that think a DPST relay will work for the turn signal going off it will, but and you may like this, here is whats going to happen, you will look like a cap truck as the relay will flash from white to amber/orange to white and so forth, and we tested this out, what we have is a relay that when it gets triggered will cut the power to the DRL on the one side for as long as you want and then when the trigger is removed the power to the DRL comes back on after the time that you set it has passed.

Its not a cheep fix, a per of the relays cost more then $60 our cost, so dont think many will want that harness thats why have not spent lots of time on it, IMO the way they work now is fine with most members.

One more thing have 2 sets of NEW headlights brand new in GM box, call and will make you a deal.

Guess what?

I just checked mine and my driver side flickers too. :(

First thing in the am, pull out of the garage, allow the auto Headlights to shut off and DRL to come on. Put the truck in Drive, apply emergency brake, turn on left signal, got out and checked and low and behold, I got LED flicker.

Are you just going to live with the LED flicker or did you figure anything out to fix it?

I'm just living with it for the time being. The problem is beyond my ability to troubleshoot. I'm hoping someone figures out how to get the DRL to cut off and that will eliminate the problem I would think.

I'm hoping to have time to test out my circuit this weekend. I like the DRL on with turn signal so I haven't really put it at the top of the priority list.

So far just my truck and horacio have the flickering issue and we both have 6.2 engines no one with 5.3 has any issues

Nope. Seems to be the 6.2L only. Even the 6.6L duramax's have no problem.

You dont want to mess with it send it on my way I'll try. Not sure why it bothers me, I forget about it then I'll see a 16/17 with the turnsignal on and the drl is off then Im back to "man I wish mine did that"

Guy's that are buying headlights off e-bay be careful, there are some old units out there that never made it to the line, they look like there the same as new OE, but all the wiring in the headlight is not right, had a person today call us up, and after 20 min on the phone/email we found out why his lights from e-bay dont work, any way a word to the wise, we can help to make a adapter to set it up to work.

Tested out the circuit yesterday afternoon. Works like a champ. Best part about it, it doesn't require any additional wiring to power the relay, power comes right from the turn signal. Tap the turn signal wire tap the ground for the coil side of the relay then break the DRL wire and run each side of the drl wire to the contacts on the relay.

You can't post video on this forum but here's a link to my dropbox that has a short video. I didn't have anyone to help me test it so I had to put the truck in neutral to get the DRL's on and activate the turn signal to test it so I wasn't able to shut the turn signal off and show the DRL come back on in the video. Now I need to make another one for the passenger side and do some longer term testing to make sure they don't fail after a few days of use. Radio shack sells everything you need to build these you just have to be comfortable etching traces on copper clad plate and soldering to build a circuit board. I'm going to check the amp draw on the DRL and see if I can find a relay that fit's the bill that isn't PCB mount to make it easier for anyone to make one of these.

Tim are you willing to be the lab rat? I'll etch out a second board soon, we can put them on your rig and see how they do in the real world for a few weeks, If they work properly on the 6.2 it should be fine on everything else.

    • There are probably a few threads talking about fuel mileage but this one seemed to fit the stats I have seen based on my typical local driven route but with different outcomes based on different seasons/temperatures. I have a few hundred pounds of items that consistently ride on the truck at all times such as a bak flip cover, rubber bed mat, tools and extra fuel so I would be something over 8100 lb without me in the truck. All these examples are based on a 100 mile round trip to a town plus running around town so maybe 110 to 120 miles in total for a trip. Using regular fuel and I assume it always has some ethanol in it but don't know the percentage they blend in. Also speed wise I am going at 62 mph and non aggressive driving although less speed yet if its crappy winter condition roads. I am going by an initial reset of the computer generated fuel use numbers averaged over a couple of thousand miles or so for each weather/season so they may be more optimistic then actual hand calculated numbers. Basically this is painting a picture of doing the same drive but seasonal conditions and temperature being the major variable to the end result. Oh and although I am in Alberta Canada, I am converting it to miles per US gallon so there is no confusion.    So winter time it gets cold here, no real surprise there and the roads can be clear at times but also often have packed rough snow or are are driving through loose snow ( they do a poor job of plowing the highways ) and yes this includes the extra idle engine time due to trying not to freeze ones butt off. 12.7 mpg is what I was getting during the winter months on average.    Then during the spring when it was around the freezing point and the highways are clear of snow, I was getting around 14.25 mpg.   Summer time, I have been getting around 15.15 on average but certainly some of the trips showed quite a bit better fuel mileage, so much depended on how much or little I had driven around town and number of engine restarts after sitting for a while at each location. But stating a best fuel mileage trip to town pretending that is what the truck gets on average is fooling ones self for sure !.      As I said in a different post, I had driven a 645 mile trip over a couple of days stint to a different destination then these other daily to town examples above, and was done during the summer with nice weather and not bucking a head wind, also keeping at 62 mph and its a rolling landscape type highway drive ( this isn't southern Alberta or Saskatchewan flat lands ) Hand calculated fuel mileage in this case though and it came out to 17.65
