When I bought my 2015 Sierra. The dealer told me that I would have on star basic for 5 years that would give me remote link app, vihicle key fob commands, vehicle diagnostics, and maintenance notifications yet After 5 months the only thing that works is the key fob commands. I called on star and they said sorry for the misunderstanding. .???

According to OnStar's website, basic should be free for 5 years, but is limited in what it covers.

My "Free Trial" ends soon also. I see there are nice things about OnStar, no questions asked however all I want and need is the app so I can unlock with my phone if needed and I really like to be able to start it with my phone on COLD winter days... Of course Canadian pricing is different but I need to see if Canadian program is same as above... I will do some digging...

According to this, I SHOULD have what I need...

5 years! I thought it was 5 months, mine just ran out and I renewed the Protection Plan. Only thing I really use is the keyfob commands on the smartphone which are the best thing ever IMO. I was unaware that would remain working for free!

Although with a pregnant wife and a 3 year old I do like the assurance of the auto crash response, but knowing that the basic three items are free I might not renew next time around.

I was just playing around with the APP more now after reading this thread, can't believe some of the awesome deals in the At Your Service.

The Diagnostics is Via email only your monthly report and I had to go online and add that I wanted that it's off by default once your free subscription runs out.

Anyone know how to add multiple cats to the app? I heard the app supports up to 4 vehicles but I can't figure out how to add the second one. ..

On the On Star app I don't see the option. You may have to log in on line.

Get the Chevrolet app. Does all the same things the Onstar one does and it is easy to add another vehicle. Btw I can add my wife's Caddilax SRX to it

Just installed it. Where do you add another car?

At the top where you have your first vehicle name. Mine is the Silverado. There should be an arrow. If you click it you see your first veh info and an 'add another vehicle' link

A couple of things to add to this thread:

  • Yes you get the Basic plan for free for 5 years. Basic doesn't include much but does include the monthly diagnostic reports (sent to your email) and the key fob/remote start features of the app.
  • You can add up to 4 vehicles to your account (I have 3 on right now). I added them through my account at onstar.com so I don't know how to do it through the app.
  • Right now there are different apps for Chevy, Buick, GMC, Cadillac, and OnStar but in the next few months GM is going to combine them all into 1 app.
