Plastic Dash-Poor Quality(?)

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, anyone experiencing a gap that develops where the plastic meets the "leather"? Seems to be temperature dependent. I'm not too happy with this, but I'm not sure that I want the dealer to start mucking around with the dash and possibly creating more issues, nor do I really have the time to take this in. I'm curious if other have this issue and if anyone has got it taken care of. BTW, truck is a 2016 GMC.

Looks like the plastic front piece warped from heat.....leather looks good. Or maybe it is not heat warped at all and one of the the push in clip popped up.......if so push down on the area and the clip will re-engage the seat.

If it is similar to the Avalanche dash, the front piece containing the Sun sensor is a separate piece that is held in with push in clips and easily removed without disassembling the dash. If so I'd have the dealer order and replace the part under warranty.

Mine rattles like heck on a rough road surface. Makes me want to ram screwdrivers in my ears to silence it.

It's a common problem and yes it is temperature dependent. Normally the issue appears in the cold. Honestly I wouldn't have the dealer fix it, they tear apart the dash, now you could have rattles. The issue is the plastic around the window defrost is a different density than the dash. This is also sn issue on the new F150s if it's any consolation.

Thanks guys. Ill probably leave it as the last thing I want is the dealer messing things up and I end up with a rattle. I did try and push it down, but there does not seem to be any clips that are not engaged.

So question: OP and Ted mention "leather" and leather.

That's just stitched plastic, isn't it?

Mine did the same, pretty close to the same spot shown. I left it alone, it bothers me but don't want the dealer messing with it.

Dealer said they would fix it, told them if got worse maybe.

It was like that from the day one pretty sure I noticed it day two or three and it had been garaged that whole time.

No, it's a stitched soft material like leather, I would guess vinyl.

I have the same thing on my dash since I got it brand new with 4 miles on it. Dealer said they would fix it but those turds would just jack something up and make it worse!
