2016 Sierra 5.3L vs 6.2L

Hey guys,

New to the site and I'm sure there is a thread for this somewhere but I was not able to find it.

I'm looking to order a 2016 Sierra 1500 All-Terrain but I am trying to figure out if I want the 6.2L or not. The $2500 is not the issue.. but from your experiences, is it worth it? I'll be leveling the truck and throwing 33's on it.

If you can afford the 6.2 get it. The 5.3 is a great motor too.

It sounds like money is no object for you, so get whatever engine you want.

In my opinion, the 5.3 is more than adequate for the work I do. If you are not towing anything heavy, you don't need a 6.2.

The 6.2 is a lot more fun to drive than the 5.3 is..... but either or will do more work than the limits of a half ton truck. Drive both and make the decision yourself.

I've had two 5.3's and they have been sufficient. I'm just curious on if someone got a 6.2 and decided whether it was worth it or not

The 6.2 is like every night with a hooker bro! Satisfying to the last drop! I have pretty small manhood so I went with the 5.3 and totally fine with that!

If your going bigger tires it will match better no doubt.....Premium gas although many are running lower octane fine it seems.

I think the only person that can decide for you if its worth it or not is you. Guys with 6.2's will tell you to buy a 6.2..... guys with 5.3's will be split between guys that don't care, wish they bought a 6.2, or find the 6.2 useless and only want the 5.3. It's how it goes lol. I have had both..... I would buy a 5.3 for a work rig that I don't care about that realistically does nothing but drive up and down the road.

I love my 6.2. Do I tow alot? Nop. When I do is it heavy? Nop..

But the 6.2 gets the same MPGs and the resale is increased with it. If I was ordering my truck again I would do it exactly the same.

If you are buying your truck - not leasing - I would prefer a 6.2 but it wouldnt be the end all decision for me. If I was ordering a truck - of course - if I am taking in stock unit to save more - then no.

I dont need a 6.2 for any reason. The 360hp in the 5.3 is perfectly fine since I can barely control it in 2wd in the rain. I have to feather the throttle or I get wheelspin from takeoff in anything but dry conditions.

I dont need another 60hp to waste gas with. I already drive mine like a hot rod and I get 12-14mpg average on highway tires with no modifications other than running boards and a k&n Drop in from stock.

I went through the same decision last month. Did I need the bigger engine? Nope, but I didn't need Denali trim either. I finally decided I wanted the 6.2 even if it was harder to find. It's just more fun to drive than the 5.3 (I test drove both). If I had to do it all over again I'd still get the 6.2. It's just plain awesome and my son likes that it's a "Corvette" engine.

If you're on the fence now then you will probably regret not getting it down the road.

Um no it doesn't...

Also of course it will have a higher resale, you spent more. That is the same argument people use for 4wd that never use it, the resale is higher. Well it should because it cost more upfront and the associated costs are more as well (mainly mpg but also financing, insurance, ect) that add up to it no where near being a wash.

OP, only you can determine if it is worth it. To me it isn't, it is a truck, even the fastest 6.2 is slower than many family sedans. So if speed is what you are after this isn't it. If you just love the feel of the power or need the added power to tow heavier loads in the mountains or something then go for it. If I started pushing the limits I would just bump to a 2500.

Why people ask a bunch of random people on the internet what they should do when they are scattered all across the country in different situations is beyond me, you will make your own decision anyways...

The mileage is only 1 MPG different and to your last sentence... isn't that kind of the idea of forums... to get opinions to help make an informed decision?
