2016 Sierra 5.3L vs 6.2L

I have a 2015 5.3 4wd DC. It does everything I want it to do, it gets great MPG and can lay down two strips of rubber if that's something I wanted to do and does it on regular gas. Having said all that if the 6.2 was available in the more affordable trims it would have been a real tough decision. The fact that it requires premium may have been the deciding factor. I think there close enough in MPG for that not to be a factor and the 6.2 separates you from the run of the mill ...everybody has 5.3! I love my truck but money IS a factor, if it isn't for you than by all means get the 6.2 and go kick some Tundra butt!

To pretty much summarize all the posts on here and everything ive read up on.. Everyone who has a 5.3L is happy with it, says it's sufficient and doesn't have issues. But the guys with the 6.2's say they wouldn't go back and they love the extra goodness even if they don't need it.

Great choice.I just got my 6.2 Denali last Friday and have around 700 miles on it. GM has made a great matchup here with the 420hp 6.2 and a silky smooth 8spd. Very refined and very powerful. My 2014 5.3 6spd had more than enough power but this 6.2 feels kick arse powerful and responsive. Makes me smile in the morning when i turn the key and that is impotent when you get old like me LOL... I guess you guys heard about the fella that was having some trouble in bed and went to see the doctor? Well the doctor explained to him that he was impotent but the poor old fella was a bit hard of hearing. next time he went back to the doctor he was wearing a new suit and the doctor asked him why and the fella told him "well heck Dr you told me I was IMPORTANT"

If you're wanting the 6.2 just get it. If you are getting it for bragging rights, remember, 2 months from now no one other than you will really care that it has the 6.2. Listening to someone brag about what they have gets old real fast.

Hahah no. I'm just looking for a little extra fun but wanted to make others thought it was worth it from their experiences

You know some people buy things to use them and enjoy them... and don't really give a damn if others have a problem with that. Odd... I know lol.

Traded a 15 5.3 for a 16 6.2. I don't miss the 5.3 in the least bit. As others have stated on here, the 6.2 is just a lot more fun to drive. I owned 3 5.3 Silverado's from a 3.08 to a 3.73 and the 6.2 with the 3.23 is just superior IMO. Before the 6.2 I would occasionally miss my 08 3.73 but no more. If it's available to purchase get the 6.2.

I went the other way.

2015 DC 6.2 with the 3.23's.

2016 CC 6.5' 5.3 8 speed with 3.42's (and tow mirrors etc)

I miss the sound the 6.2 made when I started it in the morning , or when under hard acceleration.

I don't miss the extra $ per gallon at the pump. (ya, I'm a cheap old fart)

Fuel economy, the way I use them, is close enough that it is not a factor. The 2016 has about 17,000 miles on it now. Someday I may try high test in the 5.3 for a couple of tanks.

Hey guys,

New to the site and I'm sure there is a thread for this somewhere but I was not able to find it.

I'm looking to order a 2016 Sierra 1500 All-Terrain but I am trying to figure out if I want the 6.2L or not. The $2500 is not the issue.. but from your experiences, is it worth it? I'll be leveling the truck and throwing 33's on it.

I drove the 5.3L and 6.2L back to back and opted for the latter. There was a pretty significant difference to me, but YMMV.

But...I am not using my truck as a tow or work vehicle. So in the end it really depends on what you are planning to do with it. As a "utility vehicle" the 5.3L would be perfectly fine. The 6.2L is a bit more fun to drive as a recreation vehicle. It's fun but not necessary. Hope that sums it up.
