Dealership says tow mirrors aren't compatible with standard mirror

So I found the truck I want, I asked the dealership how much to take these tow mirrors off and they said the standard mirrors aren't compatible with Sierras that come with tow mirrors. Said they could install the standard mirrors but would only be manual mirrors at that point. Has anyone heard that? Seems hard to believe. ff77fb9943cb12b359152439e7afd809.jpg

RUN (dont walk) to another dealer.

Why wouldnt reg mirrors be compatable. They dont have a special tow mirror truck line at the gmc/chevy plants

LOL. A set of DL3 mirrors will most likely work fine, the only thing that comes to mind however would be the operation of the puddle lamp. If it is on the tow mirror cargo lamp circuit, it will be fine, but would come on in reverse and with the cargo lamps. If it is on the amber running light circuit, then it may be on all the time.

Yes it is true.

I just sold someone a high country 2500 crew long bed and he wanted us to install the large towing mirrors for him.

Everything works EXCEPT for the power fold - the person - and adi installer (ADI is the company that installs LPO's at all GM dealerships - lpo is a dealer installed option) said that the only way to get the power folding feature to work is if the mirrors are factory installed.

My customer was disappointed but understood.

We did need different harnesses but that function needs to be done at the factory - period.

Wrong.

If the truck came with power folding mirrors you need the matching option door harness that are for tow mirrors and it will work fine.

I've swapped from Standard mirrors to tow mirrors on my SLT Sierra including the harnesses and it all works. No programming required. The harness is an easy swap.

You sold your customer the wrong mirrors. The power fold tow mirrors (rpo DQS) does not come in a kit. The non power fold mirrors come in a kit.

My DenaliHD came with the DL3 mirrors and part of the deal, dealer installed DQS mirrors with correct harnesses and everything works as if installed at factory.

The is a GM bulletin that outlines what mirror part number, what programming changes (if any) and what additional harnesses (if any) are required to convert mirror types.

Before buying current truck, we looked at converting ( on a '15 SLT 1500) folding small mirrors to folding trailer mirrors. It was doable but expensive.

I think the bulletin has been posting on this site before.

Re-read the OP's post. He wants to swap to the small mirrors from the tow mirrors, not go from small mirrors to tow mirrors.

I asked the dealership how much to take these tow mirrors off

Bulletin PROBABLY goes both ways.

I don't have a copy, but there were many, many combinations of possible change listed.

I'm in San Antonio; I'd be more than happy to swap your tow mirrors for my standard mirrors.

That be a negative. Only swap instructions are for small mirror to camper mirror. That is the only swap GM supports.

I swapped my tow mirrors (DQS) for DL3 mirrors. Had to swap the door harnesses too. Everything works like factory..

Hi Jay 15892. I am looking to swap the other way...DQS to DL3. Everything I read states that this swap is not recommended if the truck was built in Mexico. Was your truck built in Mexico or Flint? I was wondering if the swap can only go one way or both ways.
