May not be as simple as removing the spring. It is a momentary switch in the Off position so you need to see the schematic to see what it is controlling e.g. if it is a latching relay, or a flip flop semiconductor a constant voltage in the Off position may heat it up and cause it to burn out.

He's upset that it self returns to the auto position. He'd rather be one of those people that run around in the rain, and dusk/dawn with no lights on.

They turn on when needed, off when not needed. Should be mandatory, and it's surprising the number of cars that don't have them. Seen to many fools nearly hit with no headlights on.....

I don't see a drawback to automatic headlights, even with daytime running lights. When I got my '98 it had DRLs and I would worry that it would make the headlight bulbs go out more often than if it didn't have DRLs. I got the truck used in '04 and had it until '14 when I got my '14 and never had to replace any of the headlight bulbs. Replaced a bunch of bulbs in the taillights, but not up front.

I laughed a little when he said he doesn't want anything automatic. I guess he should remove ABS, TC, Stabilitrak, replace the trans with a manual with a manual t-case. And while he's at it, replace the windows with manual windows. There's some things I wouldn't want automatic or with an electric motor, but the things on my '14 is fine with me. I don't need automatic windshield wipers since I have the sense to turn them on when it rains. I actually like to see out my windshield so I clean it everytime I fill up at the gas station, use washer fluid once a day and I typically run the wipers 1 or 2 speeds faster than normal.

I just absolutely see no reason for the headlights to not come on when they should.

Have a valid reason? Enlighten me.

The higher end trims of the F150 have automatic wipers. They are awesome. Adaptive cruise control is too.

I like power stuff...I don't like things that are not entirely necessary that can cause more grief down the road. I don't need a truck to turn on its own headlights just like I don't need a self driving or self parking truck. I can do all that..have been for 40 yrs...ive managed . I guess there are some people that cannot do the required things to drive in the proper fashion...

I bought this as our family truck primarily for my wife. my personal truck is an 02 dodge ram diesel 4x4. it does have a manual transfer case and I put manual hubs on it too! I can fix almost anything short of a fire on the side of the road..good luck with that on these trucks....hell if ya use the wrong spare key it wont run til the dlr resets it..thats handy if your in the middle of Yosemite in the winter. I live in florida....spare might not be handy right then.

im not gonna by xm or onstar either...the 500$ payment is enough..don't need that stuff...radio is free just like the tv antenna on my house.

look man I get it..but everyone doesn't want every single gadget all the time..i just got an iphone 6 mos ago....

I didn't really realize all the tech we bought when we got this truck..i know mostly I cant work on it..but it really has a lot more than I bargained for and as much as I really like this truck..and I really do like it...I just don't need all the tech..at least I got an sle instead of the really loaded denali or something

I don't like all things on modern vehicles, but some I do. I'm perfectly happy with the features that my '14 LT has and don't need the things that it doesn't have that the higher trims do have. My old '86 Chevy C10 didn't even have factory A/C and no power anything other than power steering. I never complained about the truck unless it was raining on a hot day.

Interesting Dichotomy... Some people, present company included, are excited about tech features, and are willing to pay extra for the "new goodies". I even get upset that GM doesn't offer the same tech in their light trucks that they put in their SUV's, or even some of the tech that Ford and Ram bring to the table.

Bottom line, you are still in control. Even if your truck may steer you back into your lane or slow your cruise control for you if you are not paying attention, almost all of these features are defeatable. I get tired of Nay-Sayers condemning the upcoming autonomous features of cars as if they have no choice and the car is going to drive for them whether they like it or not. It's an added convenience feature, and it's not mandatory to use.

Getting back to simpler terms... What is the problem if the headlights come on automatically? I actually get upset when driving a rental car or passing another car during dusk or rain and they don't have their lights on!

You can still turn them off..... You simply have to turn the nob each time you start the truck. There simply isn't a valid reason to permanently disable it. They turn on only when it's dark enough, and off when it's light enough, hence they're only on when needed.

The less control you have the less thinking you have to do until that lack of thinking becomes a habit and starts getting in the way. I think I prefer to decide what I want to have automated and when.

    • Hi friends - first time poster. I have a 2015 sierra Denali with 150k miles, I’m the second owner and she’s given me 75k of great service. I run a pulse AFM disable device. Starting Thursday when I exited the freeway after a short local ride it started idling rough, with an obvious misfire shake and was down on low end power.  I got it home and hooked it up to my scannner and found no codes but in live data a pretty bad misfire on cylinder 5. I replaced the coil, plug and wire with all new OE replacements (Delphi gn10165 coil, acdelco wire and 41-168 plug). It’s still behaving the same way after firing the parts cannon at it.   I know cyl 5 is a non AFM cylinder so I am not thinking this is AFM related but I’m kinda at a loss. injector? Bent pushrod? It’s running too well over 1k rpm to suggest those IMO. Has anyone chase this issue before and what was it? Any suggestions?
    • 2017 Silverado L83 5.3l 6speed transmission Hello, not a new member but havent posted in a while and my old signup info isnt working so had to create a new account. anyways, I have an issue with my truck and hope someone can spread some light on whats happening: -when it goes to 4cyl mode it makes a clunk sound (but not when coasting or going downhill) -when in 4 cyl mode and under load it makes a load pulsating sound (not a tick). -goes away completely when in M5 gear or when plugging in an AFM delete. Im guessing it is one of 2 things but im not convinced of either to be honest. 1. lifter stuck in v8 mode 2. torque converter shudder realistically it doesn't seem like the TC as there is no physical vibration , and it never happens in v8 mode. but maybe? and wouldnt a lifter make a sound whether with load or not? any ideas let me know please. thank you!
    • Which has made me wonder with the various engine failures of a few brands in the last few years, is it sub par materials such as lifters etc causing failures, or bearing clearances on the crank etc or perhaps bad designing of an engine physically or causing too much load on the components due to the hp/torque they can push out of them. Or is the oil viscosity and additive package of current oils or a lack of oil flow by an oil pump not able to supply sufficient oil at idle or under high load at low rpm. Or is it every item I listed that combined together has pushed the limits so far to the left that there is hardly a margin of safety left and add in some fuel dilution and too long of an OCI and premature engine failure is the result ?.
    • He is not saying that an SAE *W20 will have more viscosity than a *W40 due to MORE VII polymers. He is saying that although multiple *W40 may post in the PDS the same or similar 100 C and 150 C viscosities that the blenders choice of modifier TYPE and AMOUNT to get his chosen base to grade will not give identical real world viscosities in shear and at temperature. All will pass the SII test but not all will pass the 100 C HTHS (unpublished value) testing the blender does and relies on to get the required by law "percentage improvement' referenced to his last great work.    Tis the problem with the lie. Once told others are required to support it.
    • I have a `25, 1500 that auto sets on incline. Never knew that at first. I have the electronic shifter. Just think if it didn`t do that? Unlike a mechanical shift that you can muscle out of park, how would you get this thing out? That would be a problem.   What I found out later is, I don`t have to push the button to release. Just put it in gear.   Setting parameters? Don`t know if it`s possible.
