Laura GMC equivalent for Chevy?

This is correct. Volume dealers have more hold back to work with. in addition, GM gives them more "coupons" so to speak when they sell more cars. Laura probably gets so many that they can apply some to almost every car they sell. These coupons are up to the dealer to use or not.

if you still refuse to believe that, go ahead and call the manager at Laura. They will tell you the same thing; it isnt a secret. i.e. where i live we have one of the largest chevy dealerships on the east coast. They undercut almost everybody else around, and they do it with GM's blessing. Why would GM not incentivize those dealers (or "employees" so to speak) to sell more cars?

I would simply say prove it. Show me where this special coupon is? What is the code to apply it in GM's system I will look it up and report back.

I have been up and down every single one of GM's credit codes in their own system. Trust me when I say there is no such thing as a special this dealer and this dealer only code. Hey if I am wrong all I ask if you can provide that coupon code to be verified and I will eat my words.

Well my 2 cents is Canada is totally different than in the U.S., different laws and licensing etc. When I bought mine at Laura I was told by the salesman that they sell below their bottom line so they lose money on each new sale. But at the end of the year they receive bonus' from GM for selling high volumes which more than make up for their loses.

Can you prove differently? I do not work for a dealer, so I dont know how you expect me to prove it to you. I received 1000 dollars in bonus "coupons" on my truck, but they did not give me a copy of them. They put them in their files to file with GM.

The only way i know how to prove it to you is this. See this car? http://www.laurabuickgmc.com/VehicleDetails/new-2016-GMC-Sierra_1500-Crew_Cab_Short_Box_4_Wheel_Drive_SLT-Collinsville-IL/2798133653

Find that car, with those options, at a price lower than that. The window sticker is attached.

ill give you a hint; you cant.

This is entirely false. The price of a new vehicle will not change between dealerships period. They absolutely cannot undercut each other and GM would pull their licence and entire inventory so fast if they tried it would make your head spin. The dealership does not own their inventory they have not paid for anything, GM does they simply invoice everything.

Selection varies yes but not price and I do not care how much volume they sell. Just think about it rationally it would be complete chaos and dealerships would force others and themselves out of business which would be bad for GM's bottom line. Customer service and satisfaction also varies which is why your salesman was very adamant about you giving him a 5 star rating on the after sale survey. As with most ratings anything less than 5 stars counts as zero.

You are 100% wrong on this. Look at Laura GMC's prices online and then try to have any of your local dealers match their price- I'll save you the time, it ain't gonna happen. Laura sells some.new cars at a LOSS. This risky tactic works for them because the crazy volume they sell gets them HUGE bonuses from GM. If they don't meet the magic # and miss the bonus their profits tank. Anyone in the know at GM can confirm this. Other dealers HATE them but GM takes care of them because they sell huge numbers. They are the #1 dealer for Yukons, Acadias, Sierra 2500's and Terrains. They're the #2 GM dealer overall in the country.

There's a reason they sold 320 cars since July 1st with this sale. They had 60 airport pickups alone...

Also- I'm thinking you're not that familiar with how dealerships work if you think a GMC dealer can sell you a Chevy, vice-versa...

See now this I can start to believe because I already know that profit margins are low on new cars and dealerships make more from used cars. Also there is not a lot of wiggle room to play with because and as I stated GM is selling you a car for the same price regardless. If they choose to take a hit and a risk for a payoff that is of course their own business which they can conduct how they like.

I would believe this yes but my point is GM is giving you the same price regardless as they are taking the risk it pays off at end of year if they bootstomp quotas, there is of course some risk or why would not everyone do that. There is no mystery code or credit only they can apply.

Do you live in Canuckistan?

I will go ahead and give my local dealer a call and tell them I want to pay Laura pricing. First they will laugh, then they will tell me to pound sand.

I did this just fine to with my local dealer when I bought my 15 Denali, why can't you? Why would you pay more for anything, doesn't make sense at all. I will not buy another truck that doesn't match lauras pricing.

Also the salesman said something about they were grandfathered in as a high volume dealer. GM put a stop to it because it was preventing new dealers from opening and hurting the smaller dealerships. Laura also has wiggle room on warranties and incentives also that other dealers don't have. I bought the 100k warranty and Laura's bumped it up to 120k for the same price and gave me an incentive I wasn't qualified for. All I know is that I got a hell of a deal, sticker was around 57k plus a leveling kit and wheels/tires that made it over 60k and I got it for under 50k.

The mystery codes you were referring to are known as holdback and/or dealer credits.

Edumunds explains below:

"The standard dealer holdback is not the only form of financial assistance that manufacturers provide to dealers. There are many other types of holdbacks and dealer credits that may be available from specific manufacturers at various times, some of which consumers may hear about and others of which are never disclosed to the public. Each of these can have the effect of reducing the net cost of a vehicle to the dealer. They include:"

  • Advertising credits
  • Flooring assistance
  • Floor interest reserve
  • Floor plan allowance
  • Transfer balance
  • Wholesale reserve
  • Wholesale credits

Many dealers will not match them, as they are literally taking a loss per truck. Mine did not, but once i figured out costs /time of traveling to laura to get my truck, it ended up being cheaper to buy it locally. That and a 11 hour drive both ways sounded real shitty

Where do you get your information from. Dealers do purchase the vehicles from GM but not in the fashion that we they buyers do from the dealer. Perhaps it's better to say the dealers are billed the vehicles and when they sell them, the dealer is released of the the "debt" of the vehicle. If it were true GM owned all the vehicles as you say, there wouldn't have to be a dealer approved trade when someone walks into a dealer and wants a vehicle that is located at another. If GM owned the vehicle, the dealer would be able tonauthorize the sale without consent of the other dealer.

Perhaps things work differently in Canada where you claim your from, but to say that is how it works in the US which is apparantly different than Canada is misleading to other posters.

Invoicing, no money actually changes hands. They do not pay for it until they actually sell it. Very common for like last 100 or more years.

The only people who have dealer kick back info is the dealer. This info is not provided via a public site. If it were common knowledge, many people wouldn't buy cars as they do. There has been speculation that dealer hold back is somewhere between 5-10 % of the final sales price depending on how popular the model and how much the total. GM gives a kick back to the dealer for each model they sell.....ever wonder why dealers impose sales quotas on their salesman?

I do not think you understand what a code is. It is an actual cost that you can enter into GM's system. Not what some dude at endmund spends his days typing out in an attempt to justify his job and existence it even says "But in the end, trying to figure out the dealer's true cost may be impossible." so basically that was a lot of useless junk for well nothing it even flat out states that.

Point is and it stand and it is true. ANY dealership can give you the same price and GM gives you the exact same price to the cent anywhere. As people have said some may not, but some certainly do. I would also maintain it is pretty dumb to fly across the country and drive all the way back killing your resale value while paying for flights, meals, lodging etc etc unless you are saving well in excess of $5k. If you are near and costs you little and not putting a ton of mileage on the way back; great go hard.

But I bet they will not do a cash price on a lease nor will they install a lift kit for free a year after you purchased like my dealership is about to (I am paying parts they covering labor) and all I have to do is tell people I am happy I went there when it is the truth.

Again I don't know what Silvern Sentry is talking about, I have many friends in the auto sales and my former neighbor was the GM of sales at our local Chevy dealer. I got a peek behind the curtains on their sales operations. Most car dealers are looking to make at minimum of 3-5% profit in their sales. Most of the average buyer leave 6-10% on the table because as car sales people say and know! if you're at a car dealership, your interested in a new car...even the casual window shopper can be had for the right deal...the salesman just needs to find what that is. Anyways, your larger dealer that are part of a conglomerate such as Penske who owns a vast amount of dealers across the US can purchase their inventory, and it gives them more of a choice in what models and trims they have in their inventory. Even notice how your larger dealers have the better optioned or hot model vehicles in most circumstances? Your little Podunk small dealers get whatever GM allocates. When the new vette came out the only dealers that had them were volume dealers because they bought their inventory. Something that Silvenr Sled doesn't understand is that just like we Americans pay property tax every year, so do you car dealers on their lot inventory. If GM paid this because they owned the vehicles, they'd be broke.

How does this (^^^^^) all work when a dealer finances his own floor. The owner of the dealer I purchased from CLAIMS he finances his own floor...

I ASSUME meaning that GM does not own the vehicles... or not?

I really have no clue how this all works, but am interested....

Yeah...he thinks what happens in Canada is how it works in the US and he couldn't be more wrong. Perhaps the best approach instead of him telling us how it is and him saying "show me the dealer hold back" we should tell him to put his money where his mouth is, come to the Laura GMC and demand to buy a Chevy at the same discount.

I am still waiting for him to match or beat the Laura price :bs:
