Found this broken connector when changing oil

So i just did my first oil change, was wiping up some drips from when i removed the filter and came across this piece of a connector. Any idea what it might go to?

Guessing i have a loose connector under there now. Only thing i have been having issues with is my low engine oil level alert coming up at random times (usually when i stop at a red light). It does not always happen, and my oil is never low. In fact it was doing it right after i changed the oil!

Thanks!

it has a locking tab so its a fairly important connector. Most likely for the oil level sensor, look for a 2 pin plug.connector on the oil pan. The never engines use a different style low oil sensor, the older ones you could see the big plastic hex on the side of the pan withe the connector in the middle. New style is a smaller 2 pin connector. There are also wires to control the two stage oil pump and they all may be in the same connector near the front of the engine.

Well now that others have chimed in about the oil sensor thats likely it. I have been randomly getting the low oil level warning so its probably the loose connector. Yet another reason the crap dealer will never touch my truck again!

Not loose....... broken. The red plastic locking tab (still in the locked position) pulls back with your thumbnail and then the black electrical connector can be pulled free of the sensor (or mating connector). The black plastic piece in the photo looks like it broke off the remaining piece of the electrical connector when trying to remove it without first pulling back the lock.

Follow the wires (harness) back to the oil level sensor and you'll likely see what is left of the broken connector loosely attached to it.

Jeez sounds like a dealer to avoid. The monkey had to have known that he broke this connector but just sent you on your way?

How does this morph into a dealership "monkey" issue? OP was changing his own oil, found a piece of a connector. how long has it been broken? What work has a dealer ever done?

The man said it was his first oil change so one might assume that he had been using the free oil changes at the dealership and this was the first one he has done himself? I do believe that is the oil pressure sensor connector. So OP are you still out thar?? If so how do you figure this may have happened let's get the full scoop man and see if my grease monkey theory is correct......

Look at post #5. He said it.:

So seems MYFAVTRUCK is probably correct. Dealers have more oil change issues than oil change shops. It is quite ridiculous. Such an easy task. And this is an easy change, one oil plug, one oil filter, add 8.9 quarts of dexos oil. ???? You should see the oil change nightmares on the corvettes w/ a dry sump, 2 oil plugs, and different capacities depending on the year. Dealers are pretty bad everywhere. No reason for it, other than it is accepted...

Glad you're not changing my oil and overfilling it by almost a quart. :rollin:

Ok so you made me go look. (I have 7 cars) 2015 Denali 6.2, 8 speed, page 12/2 of the manual, capacities= 8.5 qts w/ filter. So technically .4 wrong less than 1/2 quart!! And no I won't be changing your oil, I barely want to do mine but only do because the dealer experience always leaves me w/ a ding or a scratch, just not worth it to me. I do it correctly…..and I do check the book right before i do it!!! LOL 8.5 qts!!

So with the drain plug and filter on the left side and the oil level switch plugin above an aluminum boss on the right side, how would a monkey break it changing oil? Not sayin there aren't some hacks out there, but seems nearly impossible to me. And as long as we're on the subject of oil changers, $10 an hour gets the same guy no matter where he works.
