How loud will I be?

I would be interested in hearing a sound clip of it. I can't imagine it is enjoyable to drive and would irritate all your neighbors and anyone next to you. I may be getting old but next week I am getting an exhaust done on mine (3" Aero duals). I had an Aero 3030 side dump on my '05 and it was perfect. Little rumble and idle and opened when you punched it.

I'm going to have mine removed and 3" ran back to the muffler. I have a borla xr1 and mandrel 3" tail pipe. It was quiet until I put a factory 6.2 tip on it and a K&N intake now the exhaust seems much louder. I'll still run the 3 to replace the factory 2.75 lead pipe and remove the Cali cat. Will it make a hill of beans? No but it's my fvcking truck and I'll do whatever I please. Lol. I'll keep y'all posted.

Im looking into getting the xr1 any way you could post a sound clip? Also are you running a 5.3 or 6.2?

It's surprisingly quiet in the cab. Can't really hear much of it unless the window are down. Once I put the new part in I will do a sound clip. I can also do a cold start clip and a warm start clip of the current set up tomorrow.

Don't take me wrong, it is your truck so by all means the louder the better for you. I want some rumble but not something I can't use bluetooth on the highway with. I am still debating if want to try the Flowmaster super 10 or if that will be too aggressive.

GM did really well with noise cancelling inside the cab. If you don't want as loud as the video I will post the other option I suggest is leave all cats and resonators and just delete the muffler.

They will figure it out when taken in for smog. The 2 cats close to the motor are pre-cats with the back one being the main cat. I had one of the pre-cats fail and clog the main cat. All caught at smog. I'm a hot rodder at heart but I don't mess with smog if it's mandated to be on there. Better off putting high flow legal cats

My state doesn't do smog testing! It's a beautiful thing.

OP, hoping one day you'll consider long tube headers!

I wanted to delete the third cat on my truck too, but decided to save for the whole shabang. 100% satisfied with the results.

To be honest I really want them but there wouldn't be a way I could get the whole set up till next spring. I have no ambition to wait. I was going to go to the exhaust shop today but I'm trying to convince my self to wait by doing other truck projects today. Today's project is installing a CB radio!

what about high flow cats?

I'm pretty sure stock cats are high flow, but deaden the sound pretty well. The first two cats will catch the majority of the sound, so aftermarket cats might not be a bad idea if you're looking for more sound.

I just did this, mines a 6.2 with muffler and resonator delete and honestly isn't that loud, idle has a nice rumble and on wide open throttle it is loud but not overbearing. I just did the third cat removal yesterday and on start up in terms of how loud it is it isn't louder but sounds a bit different, and crackles and pops on deceleration as well as sounds a lot better up high up.

There is no place in North America where a straight pipe is legal. Feel free to double check but I am 100% positive on this. I am also pretty sure you can get in trouble for selling a vehicle in CA without a CA cat, someone from CA can correct me maybe.

My 2c it just seems silly and a total waste. If you want louder in the cab you should get a Flowmaster Dual Out Dual side Super40+. This would allow you to remain incomplete compliance and probably make a much bigger impact for around 6-800 bucks.

Do what makes you happy though.

Off topic, but fun fact.

In some parts of Canada, including my province, the vehicle only has to be inspected when sold. Once it passes as long as owner ship doesn't change you can do whatever you want to it. I had a cat-deleted Subaru with a 3 1/4 inch titanium exhaust that was louder than some jets, that thing spit flames on down shifts. My current 05 sierra has no cats or resonator, just a flowmaster 40. We have almost zero laws surrounding modifications here :driving:

    • Your tire pressure issue may just be batteries, you can reset them using tge Ing switch (I think) and the owner's  manual. ChatGTP will b e a faster, better help than Google.
    • The thinking is that starting out in a higher gear makes it easier to avoid applying excessive torque when pressing the gas pedal. In a modern 4wd truck with 4 low and a limited slip or locking rear end, I would use 4 low and try to crawl up the ramp. Sometimes if they are too slippery, you have to back up to let the boat have some bouyancy, and then accelerate briskly to get some momentum to help you pull the through the slippery parts.
    • I have a Retrax pro that I first had on my 2020 chevy and transferred it to my current GMC.  It stays in the garage most of the time, so hard for me to judge it's long term weather resistance.  It still works perfectly, been very durable.  It doesn't see oil patch usage, but it's not a mall queen.  It keeps most things mostly dry (small leaks) and the security of it is enough to slow someone down but not keep them out for long.  I would buy one again, it works for me.
    • Thanks to the convenience of Amazon, I was able to get a few things done to the truck today.  I installed Carquest Premium oil and air filters with five quarts of Mobil1 High Mileage 10-30 along with a quart of Pennzoil Platinum 5w-30 I already had.  The latch for the flip up center console lid was broken so I replaced it along with the power mirror switch.  I found my push retainer assortment this morning and reattached the plastic under the bumper and it was only held on with a few screws and retainers.  Then I programmed a new remote keyless entry fob so I can lock my dog in the truck when I take her out with me (I've got to keep the air going for her since it's been in the 100s).  Finally, I ordered some LED interior bulbs and replaced the reading lamps.  The front lights are working fine while one of the back lights only works intermittently and the other not at all.   While under the truck, I found the source of at least one of the noises: the sway bar links need replacing.  I ordered a set of Suspension Dudes links with Code Red bushings.  Never heard of them, but they're made in the USA and have decent reviews.  While making yet another Amazon order, I went ahead and added a set of front tow hooks.  I went with red, since that's the color of the sway bar link and bushings and it should look decent enough on a black and chrome truck.  Speaking of which, it doesn't bug me much, but the passenger side mirror has a chrome cap while the driver side doesn't, so eventually I'll make them match one way or another.  Oh, and I ordered a $20 TPMS reset tool.  No idea if it will do anything for my sensors but it was cheap and will work for the Ford Transit Connect as well.     For tradition's sake, I ordered a new oil change wrench.  I kept the Snap-On 9/16"x15mm GM wrench I bought when I was 18 in the 2006 GMC from the time I bought that truck until the truck was lost.  While I was tempted, there's no need to spend $80 for a new SO wrench, or even $50 with shipping for a used one on Ebay.  I just bought a Duratech 15mm extra-long ratcheting wrench to do the job as needed.  It works, and if I like that wrench enough, I'll buy the set.
    • The recall is for exactly this issue - those drain holes combined with the limited environmental capability of the tailgate electronics card inside the tailgate were a problem. The “safety issue” was the potential for the tailgate to spontaneously open, but all kinds of tailgate misbehavior can occur from water contamination of that control card.    There is no real fix yet. The initial recall just disabled the tailgate. Later, when parts became available, they would replace bad parts with new parts of the same bad design. My dealer is going nuts because the few times I let them get their hands on my truck, my tailgate is off due to a slide-in camper installation. They really want to cut my tailgate wires, but I won’t give them the chance. I will let them get their dirty hands on it when a real fix (redesign) is available.  My tailgate, which works just fine with sealant plugging the drain holes, will remain safe in a dry storage crate until then.
