ZR2 vs Z71

Ok does anyone else feel that if GM would make the Z71 option anywhere near the look of the S-10 ZR2, like higher lift, BF AllTerrain tires, just an all around better off road stance for the Z71 that it would sell a ton more than now?

I can't understand their mentallity (sp) on these cheap Firestones on an off road vehicle!!!!!! Not to mention a stance that sits the same as a regular 4x4.

Anyone else?

I agree, a more aggressive looking Z71 package would be great. It would be nice to be able to spot that a truck was a Z71 w/o having to see the decal (or look for the red shocks underneath  )

I agree.

I do think, however, that it should be called something besides Z71, like ZR2. Since there are Z71 packages on Av's, Tahoes, etc.

Plus, there would be a difference in prices from different year models. I would think a full size ZR2 treatment would cost a couple thousand dollars instead of the couple hundred the Z71 package costs.

I would wager that the reason they haven't done it yet is because of the current price of the trucks. How many people are going to order an option that adds $2k to a $35k truck? Look at how slow Quadra-steer has taken off! Man that is an option I would LOVE, but it takes the total price up to far.

The Z71 needs to sit higher, as do all Chevy/GMC pickups. I agree about the tires. They need either All Terrains or Goodyear Wranglers. However, I don't want the Z71's to automatically have the big fender flairs.

My 97 regular 4x4 sits higher than a 03 Z71  :D

Basicaly now its all about the sticker  :fume:

I heard that the older truck do sit higher as seem more truck like than the newer trucks.

I agree that chevy could add a leaf to each side step un the rear about 2" and index the cams a bit more for 2" in the front. then come factory with a 285 or 305 ALL-TERRIAN IE Wrangler AT/S or BFG's then the Z would actually mean something..

Maybe it "soars" higher in the literal sense of dimensions and height from the ground. But that's about it. I don't see anything on the FX4 that I could really give two s**ts about besides a little more ground clearance.

Hate to admit it but the FX4 is definitely a better looking package than the Z71,probably performs better too.

Different wheels, larger tires and Rancho shocks from the factory are easily worth a higher cost than what comes on today's Z71.The reason why it looks taller by the way is because, due to tire height,it is actually somewhat taller.

Also due to tire height,it will have a little bit more ground clearence over the Z71 but it also has more room for larger tires because GM,in their infinite wisdom, decided it was a good idea to countersink the body onto the frame to make for a lower step in height for soccer mom's and such.

I was parked next to a stock F150 the other day and it set way higher than my 4x4 Silverado!! But I dont see how the older trucks can set higher than the new ones, my 02 sets way higher than a '91 or a '95 and mine isnt even a Z71! I actually measured one day both trucks were loaded with 800lbs of cement. My 02 loaded sets at the same height as the '91 empty!

I know what you mean, but they also have the ZR2 Tracker that raises the hackles of the 'original' ZR2 owners!:fume::D

I would have to agree also. I'd like to see a more off road-type suspension and tire package, than just a decal as a visual cue.
