I read somewhere that 2016 2500HD's with 8inch screens have the android auto. So I was trying to connect my phone, and couldn't. So I called gm for assistance and they said it wasn't installed on my truck and the dealer was given a 400 credit because of this. I could be mistaken, but I am pretty sure I read that's it is a free software update that was available from the dealer. I asked the gm rep and she said I would have to talk to the dealership and it was up to them. Has anyone else done this, or had any issues when asking for the free software update?

Look on you invoice or build sheet that's on the window. .should say apple play credit or android.

.I heard it's no longer apple or android but a universal system and you just hook your phone up.

 

Now I do have the free on star and free WiFi and free xm for 3 to 6 months. So I hooked my phone up at the dealer ship alo ng with the free trial service stuff.

 

Had no idea how much on star really knows what you are doing. .scary.

 

I looked on my app it tells you lots of little things. Nice but big brother watching and listening when ever if they want.

 

 

I have a gs5. Works great but doesn't like the voxer app. No problems anywhere else.

I just picked up my 2016 2500HD yesterday and my Navigation system only has Apple Play support. If your head unit is the correct version the dealership can upgrade the software on your head unit/radio to add the Android Auto support. I was told by a dealer that I should be receiving a certificate from GM that I need to take to my dealer to upgrade the radio (It's how the dealer gets paid for the time it takes to do the upgrade). On Star support said that from a new purchase it should take 7 to 10 business days to get the certificate.

 

If you have had your truck three weeks or more, you might try contacting onstar and ask them if your truck support Android Auto.

I have a 16 and it had Apple carplay loaded from the factory but not AA. I had an update loaded this morning to add the Android auto. The dealer said they've seen a lot of this and are not charging for the updates. They did it as a warranty issue

It depends when the 2016 truck was built.

 

AA software was not available til about march, but earlier 16's can be reprogrammed.

Trucks built when it was available would have it in factory programming.

 

In about April they announced that from about mid May that they were building a bunch of trucks with IO5 radios without the necessary hardware to support AA. These trucks were issued with a 'credit' since the feature would not be available. Because it is a hardware change, these trucks cannot be updated to AA.

 

RPO code (check glovebox label) for trucks equipped with the non-upgradable IO5 radios is CPO.

I'll have to check that code on mine. Brought mine into the dealer a week ago for the update and they had it for 6 or 7 hours and couldn't get it to work. Bought it in April.

Check your window sticker for an Android Auto/Apple CarPlay credit of $200 or something like that. Anyone suggesting the "go to the dealer and update" bit, that only applied to early build 2016 trucks, built before April 2016. Those trucks launched with Apple CarPlay, and the Android Auto was a later rollout.

 

The following Silverado/Sierra trucks with the IO5 MyLink Radio are affected:

 

Flint trucks from VIN GF217012 to the end of 2016 model year production, Ft.Wayne trucks from VIN GZ314336 to the end of 2016 model year production, and Mexico trucks from VIN GG336479 to the end of 2016 model year production.

 

Due to supply issues, it is necessary to build a certain quantity of 2016 Silverado and GMC Sierra 1500 and HD trucks without Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.

The affected trucks will be built with the 2.0 HMI module, which was previously used on 2015 Silverado and Sierra 1500 and HD trucks.

If for any reason the dealer needs to replace the HMI, it needs to be replaced with the correct HMI 2.0 part.

 

The five ways in which you can identify the affected trucks:

 

-The window label will display a line in the optional equipment section indicating that a credit of $200 ($225 in Canada) has been applied for the deletion of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.

 

-The Vehicle Invoice will contain the RPO code "CPO" (letter O) and the $200 ($225 in Canada) credit.

 

-The main menu screen of the radio will not have the "projection" icon.

 

-The Service Parts Identification (SPID) label in the glove box will contain the RPO code "CPO" in addition to the RPO code IO5.

 

-The RPO list in Warranty History (IVH) will also show “CPO” since it is part of the as built RPO string.

 

 

So, if you fall after those VIN numbers depending on plant, and have the IO5 radio, you have the 2015 version of the MyLink system, version 2.0. You can NOT have the dealer update to add the projection feature for Android Auto/Apple CarPlay as it is a hardware difference and not a software difference. If you have any work done on the radio, out of warranty or in warranty, the dealer has to use the proper modules for your truck and can't install the new one as the truck was not built with it.

 

Again, check your window sticker, or the glovebox. If there is a credit, you have the old system. If you have code CPO, you have the old system.

I checked and I do not have CPO for a code, I do have "projection" in the menus. So apparently my dealer is just incompetent. Going back to try again on the next oil change.

It took my dealer 35 minutes from the time I drove in to when I left to complete the software update

Probably a silly question, but does your phone have the AA app downloaded?

 

And AA only works when the phone is connected by a usb cable -- it won't work over bluetooth.

I do have it. When I go into my menus, there is only CarPlay there. I think this means it hasn't been updated.

Same as mine. Tell the dealer that Chevy told you to come in for the update
