MPG cut in half after lift

I've got a 2016 Silverado 5.3 with the 3.42 gears. I was averaging around 16-18 mpg. I recently installed a BDS 6" lift and am running 35x12.5 tires. My milage has dropped to 10-12mpg highway. Does that seem right?

No. "Cut in half" would be 8-9 mpg.

You have to put on bigger tires and more lift.

If you changed tire size did you recalibrate the spedo?

I did not the speedo is exactly 5mph slower than actual speed

You need a tuner to correct the speedo and you'll see it isn't as bad as you think. Also depending on your choice of tire you might want to run the air pressure at the higher end for Highway travel which will decrease rolling resistance.

Let's see.......................

1. More rolling resistance due to bigger tires. Due to weight and rubber compound.

2. More wind resistance due to lift. There's a reason for the air dams on these trucks.

3. Along with 1 and 2, you're probably sticking the "go pedal" to the floor MORE to impress your friends (penis envy)!!

4. You, "most likely", have NOT recalibrated anything on your truck.

5. Live with it..............you wanted it, now you got it!!!

Then that means your ODO is off too. Which means you are going more miles that it is calculating, which will throw off the MPG calculations done by the on board computer and even hand calculating will be inaccurate.

You need to have your Speedo recalibrated for the size tires you are running.

But still don't expect to get OEM mpg numbers with a lift and tires. NOT going to happen. Ever.

Thanks for the reply. I didnt expect OEM mpg with the lift i knew i was going to take a hit. I assumed somewhere in the range of 3-4 mpg. It sounds like its probably round that area if i take into account the speedo being off.

You will be very lucky to only take a 3-4 mpg hit! Just putting on heavier and more agressive AT tires on a stock height truck will cause you to lose nearly 3 mpg! You have to pay to play.

I am running 275/65 20 duratracs I averaged 18.3 mpg on my daily commute. I have almost turned off. Running 87 octane diablo tune and my tires are set to the correct size. While they aren't 35s they aren't much smaller. My commute is 26 miles one way 10 miles hilly rural the rest is somewhat flat with several lights. I do no highway. I did how ever go camping last month and averaged 20mpg mostly highway. With am turned on it would have been better. I would buy a tuner.

Hypertech is well worth the investment. I'm only running 34's, but I think a 20mpg average over nearly 70K miles is pretty good. See my signature block for specs.
