Sure... why not [emoji1] I bought my 2500 mainly because of the interior (bucket seats, center console, heated seats) and the color, it matches our trailer so well it's like they were painted together.

But it came with the useless normal mirrors. I've watched with interest all the write ups by people, what mirrors to get, wiring, so on. I finally went to the dealership and checked it out.

GM has it all figured out for us guys now wishing to add the mirrors, and have supplied the dealership a check list based off of your Vin. From that I was given the mirror kit number and the two door harness I would need. I was also told I would have to do a BCM reflash.

I wasn't convinced about the need for the harnesses or the reflash, so I got the harnesses just in case.

There's more than enough vids on YouTube that shows how to open up the doors, so that was easy.

First thing I noticed was the required 4th hole was already there, no need for drilling for me, Sweet!!1a0c24692ceed0e16207a773ee4c0fae.jpg

I compared the plugs from the original mirrors to the plug of the new mirrors and seen that the new ones had more wires in it, so I used the new harness.

I was impressed at how complete it was, all the little clips and braces were on it, so no reusing the old stuff that was a little damaged from removal.

Installation was a simple plug and play affair, and testing showed I had full operation of all my original functions, power adjust of the mirrors and heat, plus the new features of the tow mirrors, the marker light on the front, the signal light in the mirror, and the LED illumination lights that come on with the switch on the dash that turn on the lights in the box and the third light [emoji106] b6167e11a749f140f410e2e1c9970b4c.jpgede7ea8b6098f5601841e9c4faf0dfe1.jpgad70f37ca15097edb9828035c51e5f54.jpg31c9b7f5f8adff2e1494d8b1f98bb299.jpg157b7d6452f3ce5a2a147b666d38b9cc.jpg

I didn't have to get the BCM reflashed to get these to work either, so saved the $100 bucks there, plus saved the 4 hrs of labor quoted to install them. [emoji41]

All trucks need the wire harness, not all trucks need programming, pre AVF trucks need a jumper harness also and Flint, MI built trucks from my under standing already has the 4th hole.

is the power folding feature retained?

In my case I never had power fold to begin with. After doing my install, if you get the parts your dealership recommends, you should be fine [emoji41]

What's pre AVF, and I'll check to see where mine is built

So the new ones power fold then?

Nope, I never had that option to begin with.

Trucks built after August 14, 2014 has an rpo code of AVF, trucks built before this date do not have this RPO code.

Gotcha, I will look for that RPO code. I did confirm my truck is a Flint Mich truck. So that gives validity to your suspicions

I have power camper, manual folding mirrors now, but I need ones that power fold. I have to do them manually every time I come and go at my house. It really sucks when it's pouring rain or snowing like crazy. I assume power fold is part of the reflash then??

Just left my local dealer. They said they have no list. They also said if they weren't power fold to begin with, there is no way to make the new power fold ones fold function work even with a reflash.

I guess what I was trying to say is that, yes, if you don't already have power fold, then you still won't have power fold with the new tow mirrors, regardless of the new harness or a reflash. Power fold mirrors have a completely different button on the arm rest then the non-power fold. I'm not completely sure what the reflash is for as my mirrors functioned perfectly with out it. I found the check list my dealer used on the interwebs at one point, I'll look for it again,

The dealership still used it's data base somehow in conjunction with my Vin to let me know what mirrors and harnesses I needed

    • Common Sense Assembly   Your driveline is forgiving of the occasional mistake. It will even often forgive the random serious blunder. But it will not forgive a continuous bad habit.      What? Not everything needs to be a five thousand word essay.
    • We drove about 15 minute east today to visit a friend and saw a steep increase in price in the same county. About 50 cents a gallon steepper.
    • Sure about that? A degree wheel and a dial indicator would lower your degree of assurance in that statement. 😉    It why we have offset keys and dialable timing sprockets. Just say'n.... I've built a few and have never seen one "On the money".
    • I will admit I haven't experimented much with pressure drops beyond the numbers I put in and part of that is that the numbers I used are fairly low and then found out it would trigger regardless at that 35 psi. Having said that I had tried before had changed the placard pressures and being that I have a 1 ton set to 80 on the placard for the rear I believe it triggered close to 60, the front I don't recall now for sure but thought maybe it could get close to 45 from that factory 60 placard pressure. So I never did figure out if it was a number of psi from placard pressure to the alarm or a percentage of the total placard number as some figured it was like a 25% drop from placard pressure would trigger it. So as to try and answer your question, I believe I set the placard pressure on the front to 47 or so and while I run the front tires at 40, they have dipped below that some if its colder and I haven't put "winter air" in yet and never once have had the front alarm go off. I would say that the answer your looking for is no, that if you set your placard pressure to 45, you have a certain amount of room to drop below that pressure before the alarm will go off.    The pressures you decide to run in your truck, that ends up being what makes sense to you based on what your carrying in your truck or if towing, then have to bump them back up to something that will carry the load in the rear and the fronts typically left at the same pressure. It all comes down to that chart I put the link to and using an accurate roadside scale to be your guide, both unloaded and then loaded to know your minimum safe pressures.    I just wish GM would allow a person to change the readings for the tire pressures to the English system of pounds as I have to look at that goofy metric reading that will never ever jive in my head and will go over and change it just to figure out what they are if need be and then change it back.
    • That part I understand, that the dealer can do it. But I'm not understanding why updates that were available to the truck since it left the factory, or the dealership originally, would not still be available to it without dealer intervention.   I'm thinking along the lines of recalls. They stay available until they are completed, regardless of whether they are in warranty or not, or in the hands of the original owner or not. Why not updates as well, especially since some of those can be safety related also?
