Boss Coilovers 0-3" of lift

Heys Guys, Just looking for feedback. Have any of you heard about the Boss Coilovers? Would love some feedback from you, as these Boss Coilovers will be available very soon for all the GM 1500 trucks. Ever heard of them? Here is a set done in our White springs and carbon wrapped. The first set being tested on Eibach Springs GM truck:

While waiting for their feedback, based on prices for f150s I would assume around $1000.

 

 

IMO if I am going to spend that kind of money id rather go with a reliable brand like FOX. Also, if you ever wanted to get the true 3" of lift out of these shocks you're going to need to get new UCA's anyways. Which then brings up the problem of if you're going to spend the extra on new UCAs maybe you should just go with an entire lift kit.

 

$1000 for 3" lift shocks that will require ~$800 UCAs to actually run the 3" lift

$1200 for a Zone's 4.5" lift kit.

$900 for Fox 2.0 coilovers. 0-2" lift no other mods necessary.

 

Not trying to bash your product. But reviews don't seem to be all that great, and other than color options I really don't see anything that would draw someone to purchase these. Unless someone was dead set on only wanting a 3" lift in which case these, plus new UCAs would be a few hundred dollars cheaper than Fox 2.5's or King's plus new UCAs.

looks like a quality product. made in usa? a lot of us have had luck with fox coil overs and bilstien lift struts. would be nice to have another option as those of us with z71 trucks are disapointed in the ride quality when leveled.

^ Thank you for your positive comment. Yes, everything is made in the USA, and assembled in Colorado. I really think you guys are going to be thrilled with this new coilover. We walked into a Chevrolet dealer here in Colorado to show the General manager the Boss Coilovers, soon to be available for the GM trucks and he immediately says "When will those be available"?

So we will get them installed on our GM truck as soon as the Coilovers arrive.

^ Thank you! It's always a little tough in the beginning, But once the folks see and try the product it takes off. We are excited to open this GM division and make everything like we do for the F150's for the GM trucks. That means leveling spacers, front and rear shocks, rear block kits, accessories.

I think we are set to install our Boss Coilovers today. Pics to follow. We did some looking/investigation yesterday of the stock coilover and it looks like this truck has a 2" level kit on it, go figure??? It was a demo so they must have put a level kit on the truck. From floor to wheel well edge the truck measures 39 1/2" front and back.

 

This is the first set that went through testing in Corona, CA and now we will complete the testing here in Broomfield, CO.

This is the truck with Coilovers at 2.5" of lift from just the Boss Coilovers, measures 40" from the ground to fender edge. Of course it is always better to measure from the hub center to the fender edge....but we didn't this time so what the heck. We did not cut the bump stops. Ride is fantastic. We think we'll do some more testing cut the bump stops out and lengthen the coilover and back the spring pre load down and see what we get there. Our old building sign which you can see in the reflection comes down next week, the new HaloLifts sign goes up! Toyo 35 x 12.50 MT's are here they go on the truck next week also. Our mission as always: Do whatever it takes to make it happen!

So the truck as it sits is running at 2.5" with no transfer case mods or corrected Aftermarket upper control arm? Do you pictures or the angels/ball joints on the upper & lower control arms?

What can you tell us about the shocks? Twin tube, monotube, progressive, linear or digressive? How much increase in extension travel to they allow over stock? What's the spring rate?

 

The answers to the above would really help users make a more informed choice.

Specs that I was able to get today, I will get the engineering drawing as well,...it will call out exact extension and collapsed lengths.

 

Boss Shocks are digressive, mono tube with Eibach 700 lb spring. The Boss shocks are roughly 1.25-1.50" longer than the shocks that came on our truck. We usually carry four different spring colors: Red, Silver, White, Black

    • This is interesting. My quote tagged here is different from my original quote. After I’m driving them longer. That isn’t me. I don’t talk that way. I definitely wouldn’t express myself that way. Interesting.
    • I have the same running boards on my truck and I do agree they are bulky. I also find myself stepping over them when getting in and out of the truck. Besides providing protection to the rocker panels, they aren't very useful.  I will be replacing them soon with the Amp Powersteps. 
    • Monthly payment is only part of the equation. With today's prices and interest rates, I'd look at the total monthly cost: payment, insurance, registration, fuel, maintenance, and expected repairs. A vehicle that fits comfortably into your budget is usually the better choice than stretching for a higher trim. I've also kept my vehicles longer over the past few years. New cars have gotten expensive enough that driving one for 10+ years, while staying on top of maintenance, often ends up being the most cost-effective approach.
    • 10 Ford and Chevy engines proven to reach 300,000 miles   You may note a common 3K OCI on this list of gas motors. I skipped over the diesels. Dh'O. 
    • Thanks newdude!  By the time manual selection is needed, I'm probably too much of a control-freak to depend on the transmission sensing braking to activate automatic downshifting.  I would be anticipating the situation and already be manually downshifting.   This truck replaced a 2004.5 LLY diesel with the Allison 5-speed.  Putting it in T/H made noticeable differences (when the torque converter locked, upshift points, downshift behavior).  On this 2024 gasser with the 10L1000 I haven't been able to detect much, if any, difference.  Ok, I can never tell now when the torque converter locks up.  But I also don't notice differences in shifting.  For downhills, I've probably already manually downshifted by then anyway.  Since it's also more awkward (than the 2004.5) to engage/disengage I don't even bother.  Or maybe it doesn't really matter with just a 3k lb. camper in the bed?   Thanks also for the list of reasons the charging system might select various voltages.  However, what I am seeing doesn't fall into any of those categories.  It very definitely, and very consistently, rises after coasting/braking.  Maybe not immediately, but not very long after coasting/braking.  Very consistently drops voltage when no longer coasting/braking.  It might also be interacting with the camper battery charging (I might disconnect the camper and see if it changes the charging behavior).  I also need to recheck turning on headlights for when I want to force it to charge the camper.   Another JR, in June I converted the camper to LiFePO4.  Since it's not a good idea to try to charge lithiums directly using truck, I installed a Victron Orion XS DC-DC charger (which BTW is AMAZING!!).  Being cheap, I only had to buy that one item (besides the battery, of course) to do the conversion.  The camper OEM 120v battery charger (only 19 years old and works perfectly) and the truck feed the input to the DC-DC charger (not at the same time).  But I didn't want the camper charger feeding back to the truck so I kept the old separator.  I considered replacing the separator with a 30amp diode but that means more work and might add another 1/2 volt drop.  One thing that surprised me was the voltage drop over the long 10awg wire run, so I can only charge smoothly at 8 amps (because the DC-DC charger is completely configurable).  Another reason I don't want an added voltage drop with the diode.  I might also be a little lazy but all this work is being done under the sink with a small cabinet opening.
