Water Streaks

Last month, I purchased my leftover 2015 GMC Sierra single cab, which had sat outside for almost 2 years. Obviously the dealer washed before I drove away. However a few days after I bought I noticed that it had some very faint streaks running down the sides of the doors and the back of the tailgate. I already talked to my dealer about it but they are charging me to remove them. Not paying them a dime.

 

So my question is how can I remove these water marks? Any products you'd recommend? Also, since I'm at it, what would you recommend to bring out more shine in the paint? The truck is black BTW

Hard to say without seeing a picture but if it's just on the surface then something such as Meguiars Ultimate compound on a foam pad would give you a great chance at getting rid of the streaks.

 

If you have a D/A polisher it would make fairly easy work. If working by hand, make sure to apply even pressure otherwise you may inflict rub marks into your paint which will require correction! Look up videos online if you are nervous. Black is the best color vehicle after properly detailed, and also the hardest to keep clean!

 

Really what you should do for max shine is:

Wash

Clay

Compound (at least where necessary at a minimum)

Polish

Wax

I use a squeegee that's made to run the water off of the paint. I remember the first time I washed my black '14 and saw all of those water spots and streaks. So I went to Autozone and bought a squeegee. You can also get them at Walmart I think. The spots are from the minerals, dirt and whatever else is in the water. the water evaporates in the sun but the other stuff stays. So the squeegee just runs the water off. It won't be perfect, but good enough seeing that it won't take long for it to get dirty again. If it's sunny, especially humid, you need to squeegee the water off as soon as you rinse the soap off, literally as soon as you can.
