2014 5.3 squeal and black smoke when remote started

Truck has 25k mi. Went out and started it with the remote this evening been sitting for 5 days and it screeched and rattled and black smoke came from the grille. Going to have the wife get it into the dealer tomorrow morning but was looking for and ideas so they dont give her the run around. Thanks

just tell the service writer what it did, if it don't do it for them they can't fix it.

Sounds like something on the belt drive system was locked up. A/C compressor, alternator, or tension adjuster. Making the squeal and smoke at the same time (belt slipping) that sounds like the culprit.

Sounds like it was just a really cold start IMO.

5 Days is a bit for it to sit, even your OnStar will auto expire if the vehicle is not started in 5 days. I would drive it a bit then start it and see if repeatable. If it is not repeatable it may be a waste of time taking it in because I am 90% sure that is all the shop will do unless they can repeat it.

My Truck often sits for a week or 2 at a time but I make sure to turn it over every couple days and have not experienced any black smoke of note.

It made the same noise last week but there wasnt any smoke. The smell of the smoke was of electical or rubber. The truck often sits long periods and hasn't ever done this before. The dealer towed it in for free since its under warranty so lets see what they say. It defently not normal for this truck

I dont care how long it sits it shouldnt be smoking out thru the grill! My 06 Dmax would set weeks with out getting started no issues as does my 02 camaro SS.

A/C Compressor gets my vote!

A/C compressor it is. Not too sure if it was internal or what but they put a new one on and did the seat belt recall that i said not to do but they say they didnt cut it apart. I guess ill see tomorrow

I knew it. The problem you described sounded just like the belt trying to turn a locked up pulley.

Did you allow them to hack up your inteior or replace the carved up trim with new properly designed pieces?

I asked them to just leave it alone but when he called and said the truck was done he said they went ahead and fixed the tensioner withou cutting the rubber. Im going to pick it up in a little while. I will post a picture
