Muffler change?

Seriously, so they need to make a downsized pipe?

That's kind of a bummer, not sure I want to downsize the inlet pipes restricting more air going into the first muffler.

I wouldn't worry about that,

Inlet to muffler 3.5"

out of muffler 3" to flapper

flapper to resonator 3.5"

resonator to tailpipe 3"

LOL

These have 3.5" I/O, others are out there too listed these as they are brands for systems or mufflers I have used in the past.

Borla 40086

Borla 401012

Magnaflow 12909

Dynomax 17517

Watch removing the flapper if no plans for tuning out V4.

Also keep in mind there is a science to exhaust from OEM and aftermarket, that's why some that just hack off parts have issues with drone and resonance, not that you can't get them with a complete system.

Thanks for the list brother.

Is the flapper valve for quiet when the engine switches from V8 to V4? Or is it open for a bit more noise at cold start up and when going half throttle or more?

It is there to help with v4 sound, drone/helicopter sound if removed and not tuning out v4.

Well I wouldn't want helicopter sounds when it switches to V4 mode.

So is it possible to have just the muffler switched out but keep the flapper valve?

Jesus, LOL, you're right.

I just looked better under my truck and saw the 3.5" into the muffler, 3" out of muffler into flapper, 3.5" out of flapper into 2nd muffler, 3" out of 2nd muffler to tail pipe.

WTF?

Man GM makes some weird azz decisions.

Why not 3.5" all the way for the 6.2 V8's?

Or if the rear 3.5" tail pipe looked too big for them, just drop to 3" after 2nd resonator?

Anyway, looks like there is a few inches of pipe going out of the main muffler before the flapper valve, so I'd guess it's possible to cut out stock muffler, weld in (or clamp if need be) aftermarket muffler and keep the flapper valve no?

I'd still want to use a muffler 3.5" inlet so the exhaust shop doesn't have to fabricate a 3.5" down to 3" little piece of pipe in order to put in aftermarket muffler.

any good shop should be able to handle the 3.5" from new muffler to the flapper. don't think you'll find any mufflers that do single 3.5" in to single 3" out, might find 3.5" in and dual outs but that won't work.

OK cool

I think I'll just go with one of the mufflers with a 3.5" in and 3.5" out to the flapper valve with a step down to flapper.

I gotta call Borla and ask what the difference between the Sportsman and the Multi-core is?

Then look into the others you have on the list.

Thanks again man, much grass!
