Bedliner Rocker panels

Recommended Posts

Had my truck out hunting this week and I've really noticed the rocker panels and bottom 2" of my doors taking a beating from the rocks. I don't have running boards but I do have the molded mudflaps. I also see that the plastic air dam in front of my rear wheels is all broken from rocks.

I'm wondering if anyone has sprayed Line X or similar bedliner on the rocker panels and bottom of the doors to protect from rocks? I'm thinking of possibly doing the plastic wheel well moldings as well. Being that my truck is Iridium metallic I don't think the bedliner would really stand out much either.

On a black truck it would look so sweet. I'm actually about to do mine that way I am toying with maybe a couple inches above the rockers also.

Yikes based on the damage you've already taken, sounds like you ought to do it. I'll be straight with you, it'll probably look good, not great, but there just comes a time where functionality needs to be a higher priority than looks. Just my opinion :-) linex it.

I don't plan on going all the way up to the chrome moulding on the door. I just want to go up maybe an inch or two on the door and the rocker panels. I'm going to stop in at the local Rhino liner applicator and ask for a quote today.

Quote will probably be the $500+. No guarantee it doesn't chip off too, though. I considered it for my 2006, ended up just getting longer mudflaps and touching up the rockers from time to time.

Well $500 ain't bad. I had a local guy quote me $450 to do a clear 3M vinyl over the affected areas but I know that would wear off quickly.

I think it would ruin the look of the truck... I had my rockers done in xpel clear bra film, protects paint from everything and can be removed at anytime, can barley notice it. I've had it in for 2 years

If this helps Line X is tougher than most think it is, my buddy back home put line X on his specialized bumpers and covered lower part of his truck where the factory anti-chip paint to hide the dings, dents, and added protection to it.

He had no issues with it coming off or chipping, I saw his truck few years later and where he worked on the surface mines I could not believe how the line X held up and it outlasted the truck body.

My front and rear bumpers are coated, my fender flares are coated too. The most cost will be in sanding the area to spray. I'm telling you it'll look good I've seen a truck with it on it.

I've seen anything from rockers done to an entire truck sprayed with linex. I like it...

When you do it, ask the applicator if they can vary the texture. The exterior sprayed deals I've seen had a much smoother finish than my bed has...makes it blend in better and holds less dirt.

I stopped by the Rhino Lining dealer in my city today. I showed him what I was thinking and he totally agreed that bedliner would probably be the best way to do it. We talked about a clear vinyl but wasn't sure it would stick to the orange peel textured gravel guard on the paint. That, and it still wouldn't hide the current rock chips and would likely need to be redone in a couple years too.

He's done a few trucks with Rhino lining that regularly drive on gravel and said it holds up quite well. He showed me what the texture comes out like and it looks really good. Quote was about $600 give or take and clear vinyl was $500. It's only like $100 in materials but the labor is all the costs are. I think I'm going to book the appointment and get it done.

Keep us updated. I've been very tempted to look into this due to all the rock chips.

Good choice! A friend of mine who works in construction had the same thing done to his Dodge. The truck was red, and he had the Linex sprayed on up to about eight inches above the rocker panels, so from far away, it looked almost like the truck had a grey two-tone paint job. It looks really nice and it stays clean. With the color of your truck, I think it will look good.

The material GM uses for their OEM liner is an almost perfect match to the Iridium, especially in the Sun because it develops a heavy metallic sheen just like the paint.

Plenty of rocks/gravel in my unfinished development........have the wheel flares and tubular running boards and the leading edges of the running boards were getting the chips......problem solved by additionally adding flat mudguards (molded won't fit with the flares installed).......now, no more chips just the noise.

I had a friend spray the rockers on my 2011. Colormatched perfectly and protected from road debris and shoes getting into the truck.
