2016 Silverado Seat Belt Won't Retract

Just like the title says. I am going to take it in to have it fixed, but is anyone else experiencing this? I have to flip it four or five times for the seat belt to actually retract. It's pretty annoying. I didn't find any topics relating, so I thought I would ask if it's just me.

Hi WalksAlone,

We apologize for the unexpected seat belt concern with your Silverado. If you would like for us to look into this further, and reach out to the dealership, let us know in a private message! Please be sure to include your VIN, current mileage, contact information and preferred dealership.

Happy Holidays,

Anthony

Thanks Grumpy.

I noticed today the plastic trim on the B pillar by the seat belt holder is all nicked up from me grabbing the seat belt to pull it over my shoulder every day. Just like my center console plastic trim. It scratches if you look at it wrong. It looks fancy, but damages so easy.

I have a similar issue with both rear seatbelts on a 2014 Silverado. I have only owned the truck for 6 months, but I have two young kids who sit in the back and I constantly have to make sure their belts are tight. And when they get out of the truck they're constantly slamming the belt in the door because it won't retract. Took it to the dealership and they charged me $120 just to look at them, then said it would be almost $500 to replace both recoilers because they are binding. Seems ridiculous that a 4 year old truck has this problem and that they're not being replaced under warranty because it's a safety concern? If the recoilers are binding up already, I say that's a design issue. I've owned 15 year old vehicles that never had this problem.

Same here. Drivers rear sticks for my son all the time. I called the dealer and asked about safety and they gave me that ridiculous price too. Not covered by any kind of safety recall.

I’d be reporting this to the NHTSA.  Wouldn’t be surprised though if nothing comes of it. Suspect NHTSA has been paid off handsomely for decades now to bury the plethora of serious safety issues in GM vehicles.

Have a 2017 GMC Sierra rear middle seat belt won’t retract guess what 120 miles out of warranty and we have to pay to get it fixed. Bad part it has not worked in 2 years but my husband is a procrastinator and didn’t take it in so we are going to attempt it our selves.
