geswek Posted December 22, 2016 Posted December 22, 2016 I cannot for the life of me remember if the third brake light came on with your lights--or only when braking? OnStar has started annoying me with the "malfunctioning light" emails--I have Phillips LED's in my license plate but they've been there for 2 months. I've checked the lights and everything works--but literally cannot recall if that darn thing only came on when you hit brake or if it had running light part.
geswek Posted December 22, 2016 Author Posted December 22, 2016 Ok well dang--guess OnStar has started detecting my license plate LED's LOL.
SilveradoSaver Posted December 22, 2016 Posted December 22, 2016 Ok well dang--guess OnStar has started detecting my license plate LED's LOL. I have the same Philips bulbs in my third brake light and cargo lamps too haha.
geswek Posted December 22, 2016 Author Posted December 22, 2016 I have the same Philips bulbs in my third brake light and cargo lamps too haha. I have them in the cargo lights, reverse lights, and license plate--same Phillips ones. I swear, I read a thread about someone saying they started getting the email and sure enough, the next day, OnStar sends me a freaking email. I've gotten 6 of them so far.

Not that it should matter, but have you tried popping the bulb(s) out and popping them in the other way? Sometimes the stupidest things work lol
Manny254 Posted December 22, 2016 Posted December 22, 2016 Just wondering why would Onstar email you about your third light? If i recall the third light should only come on when breaking.

Onstar email does not specify what light--it just says malfunction, go see dealer. The third light came up because I walked around truck checking everything and I could not recall if that was supposed to be on with my running lights. That is all.

Oh ok I see guess its just a feature from OnStar then never had a vehicle with OnStar before well till now.

Yep it's a feature--you also get monthly diagnostic report that tells you how your vehicle is doing, etc. The light just recently started--still not sure what it is since every bulb is fine. I'll just ignore it--it's probably my LED's in the license plate causing OnStar to think something is out.
Colossus Posted December 22, 2016 Posted December 22, 2016 Oh the crap GM will try to pull to get you into a dealer to be ripped off $60.00+ just to replace a burned out bulb.
Amuro Posted December 28, 2016 Posted December 28, 2016 LOL so that's why I keep getting On-star emails.
Nwatson99 Posted December 29, 2016 Posted December 29, 2016 LOL yea it is the license plate bulbs, I received the same e-mail and a later that evening a phone call from my preferred dealer wanting to schedule an appointment to get them replaced. I explained to them I changed them out to the led since the OEM bulbs were dull and looked like crap, so they noted that on my account, notified on-star, and have not received any communications since.
