Taking an expensive plunge to fix my home network

Since I moved back to NH I haven't been able to get anywhere close to the full speed my ISP is bringing into my apartment. Even using a second router to extend my network hasn't helped. I get like 110 Mbps in the room with the modem but my bedroom and where the computer sits I barely get 20. So after reading a few positive reviews I ordered this three router kit. Hopefully it works. Update to come next week.

Reviews say it's average. But since it is just you, bandwidth won't be much of an issue

Fair enough. I don't have any issues running at 20 Mbps either, I just want what I'm paying for. I'm currently running a pair of Apple routers and they're both fairly old now but still able to support the speeds I'm running. So maybe just being new will somehow help. Or maybe I just wasted $300. lol

My stuff with Charter is up to 200 Mbps. I'll see over 200 while in my living room on wifi late at night sometimes. Plugged in I see 150 to 200+ all day long

My setup will be my own modem and router when I decide to spend $450

Check and make sure whatever channel(s) you're wifi is on isn't over populated with your neighbors running on them as well. With just me I have zero speed problems, then again I only use wireless on my tablet and phone. My HTPC and desktop are hardwired as well as my dust covered peasantry, I mean PS3. Bought my own TP link router and modem which together didn't cost me over $160 if I remember correctly. Let us know how it works out for you.

I'll get the rated speed all day long when in the room with the main router. On wifi.

Modem is a newer Arris that meets the latest standards. I don't have enough people close by to cause crowding on channels I don't think.

I have the newer arris as well. My issue is range and a well insulated house

Was just a thought, you said apartment so that makes me think many people. Look for a wifi analizer app for your phone, I don't know what apple has but there are quite a few easy to use and free ones for Android.

It's actually easier to have crowded channels since most people never change them which means pretty much everyone is running the same 2 or 3 channels lol

I believe these apple ones automatically switch.

I did download an app but it's only detecting the gadgets here in my place. When I scan for networks using the phone's wifi controls I will occasionally see the people above me and next door (there are only 3 units here) and at my computer desk I can get a fringe of the organic food hipster market next door. I suppose during the day that could be full of people and their gadgets but at least during the week I'm not home when they're open so I don't know. Guess we'll see sometime next week hopefully!

5GHz is much faster, but shorter distance. The 2.4GHz is probably what you're connecting to at longer distances because the 5GHz just doesn't carry well indoors. I have an ASUS AC3100 router and I can get the 5GHz signal to work for about 25' in the house (through walls into different rooms). Beyond that, it gets sketchy and most stuff stops working altogether. The 2.4GHz SSID holds a signal to about 75' in the house without noticing any real drop in performance.

Google system is up. Speeds are much better, both at the primary router and the one in my office. Very happy with it so far. Setup was easy and their control app is light years ahead of the Apple utility I used to run the Apple router.
